i think Sawao's voice is cool now. It's deffinately better then his voice in his earlier days.
But his vocals have changed, kind of more mellow-ish now.
Lately, his vocals havn't been stunning, but he definently has the most talent in the band. Manabe can't play worth shit and there's nothing special about sato's drumming.
It's the chord progressions, I tell you.
That's not true. Sato is a really talented drummer. He's very tasteful though. He plays simple parts because the music demands them, but any drummer can still tell how talented he is. It's always been that way too. If you listen to early Pillows (Pantomime in particular), Sawao and the rest of the gang have no idea what the hell they are doing but Sato is still sounds great.

I just said that the drumming is nothing special. Besides jazz drumming, this genre has the only interesting drum beats.

How anyone can listen to Kono yo no hate made and No Self Control and say his drumming is nothing special is beyond me. No one rocks a little 8 piece set like Sato. Would you be more impressed if he wore leopard print spandex while he did it? Probably.

I think sawao's voice has degraded in the past view years - watch the liquid room videos from 97 and then watch the 916 video. This really shows that their peak may have been in 97 or around then. I don't mind Sawao's singing now - but I loved his voice before alot more. Even in the very early songs. As far as their skill - sato is bloody stellar. Manabe makes alot of mistakes and Sawao misses a few notes in his singing, but they're still playing just fine.

Watch recent live videos - the proof is all there. There are just times where he'll miss a note or two during a solo.

my thoughts exactly. all that matters is that if he can write songs and play them well enough to make them sound like he wants them to, it's fine with me.

I'm not siding with steven, don't worry.
If you want the songs manabe wrote himself - listen to nine miles. No one knows how much input manabe has in the pillows' songs, I believe.
