Post Re: Collecting music on vinyl
Sweet pick ups Mafu. "Keep It Like a Secret" is the ultimate Built to Spill album. Front to back that album is fantastic. No filler whatsoever on there. I love that Sawao is a fan of them, and I'd love to hear him talk more about them.

But I never understood the love for Highvision though. I'll admit, it's my favorite of Supercar's last three albums, but then I didn't much like Supercar's later, electronic-influenced output at all. Kind of like how I never got into Kid A and beyond from Radiohead. Yet both Supercar and Radiohead are among my favorite all time bands just because of their earlier material.

I know, it's a super unpopular opinion, but there it is. I could listen to OOYEAH!! and OOKEAH!! nonstop, but those last three albums never really did it for me, despite repeated listens to try and get into them. Apparently those two "project" albums were released on vinyl originally (according to Discogs), but they weren't re-released during this recent run of vinyl releases. A shame they didn't. :(

squirrelfiend has the OOKeah!! OOYeah!! vinyls, I've seen pictures and they're dope.

With a band that changed their sound as quickly and consistently as Supercar did, you're bound to have different albums favored by different people. In my opinion, that's always a pretty exciting thing. I listen to those two the least personally, but that's the different strokes for different folks thing in an nutshell lol. My favorites are songs like A.O.S.A., Planet, and Last Scene, so the later work really does it for me as its kind of a more lush style of arranging the earlier song types and a more poppy version of the experimental stuff from the middle years. I'm bland and basic like that hahaha. :groovin:

He's got the original vinyl for OOKEAH!! and OOYEAH!! ? Man, like I said, I'd love to get my hands on those. Maybe I'll get Jump Up eventually, because I really do enjoy that album a lot too. But then I'd like to get Happy Bivouac on vinyl too, soooooo...

Maybe in alternate universe where I can spend tons of money on music. :dizzy:

There's 3 copies of OOKEAH!! on Discogs from $14 - $20, they really aren't that expensive. https://www.discogs.com/Supercar-OOKeah/release/3312317

No copies for sale of OOYEAH!! right now but two sold within the last 3-4 months for $43 and $30 respectively, again not too expensive. If you don't have a Discogs account, sign up and put it in your want list to get notifications.

It's the inverse over at Amazon.co.jp: 3 new copies of OOYeah available (around 3,500 yen; not very expensive), and just 1 used copy of OOKeah. I also remember that there were several more copies on there a few months ago. I'm always surprised when records that have been out-of-print forever are easy to find in brand new condition (and not too expensive), like eastern youth's 雲射抜ケ声.

I believe there may be a different edition with special colored discs or some such that he has, I recall it being rather difficult to obtain and very specific. I may be misremembering, but pretty sure it was something cooler than the default discs.

I think there's only one vinyl edition for each album. Nice records, though; they come with these 3D glasses things and some 3D images on the lyrics sheet.

The rarest Supercar record is probably the Answer picture disc. It certainly goes for quite a bit nowadays.

Yeah as far as I can tell there's just the one release of those two albums respectively. The Answer picture disc is on Discogs too and like dimsim says, very expensive.

Sometimes more copies are quietly produced with the same barcode or a retailer will dump a bunch on the market at once, there are a lot of possibilities so its tough to say for certain. Sometimes it's just a coincidence, one person starts selling and then it's "sell! sell!"

Yeah, I got it confused - he has the whole set of colored vinyl they did for some early singles and stuff: https://www.stereo-records.com/detail.php?itemCd=90676

Each of the three new Cowboy Bebop box sets come with the main soundtrack album on 2xLP color vinyl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA9HL63OIUY ...if you have some serious cash to spare.

Only if they get funded, the top two sets are definitely not getting made and the "cheapest" $250 set is only happening if another 200 preorders happen in the next 4 days. https://www.funimation.com/bebop20th/

It's only the first OST, it doesn't feature the original artwork, and it's on lame colored vinyl. All in all a pretty dissapointing release. According to Funimation, the current rights holder Flying Dog prevented them from releasing this soundtrack seperately. I can only hope that this is a signal FD might have their own release in the works, and doesn't want Funimation competing with that.

Hope so! These way overpriced boxes can get screwed, but I'll be fine with paying for a slightly overpriced Japanese 2xLP on its own.

It seems like a gross oversight to miss how important the iconic album art of OST 1 is.

The people who would pay hundreds of dollars (or even....$50) for Bebop box sets and vinyl are total nerds (like us!) and the original artwork is important to that crowd. I have zero sentimental connection to your slick new packaging, and I surely don't [mod edit: swears] care about green-orange splatter-marble wax.

You put OST 1, Vitaminless, No Disc, and Blue all out on their own discs. Black vinyl. Individually for $35 or box set + hard case + ASK DNA single and maybe some other insert [mod edit: swears] crap, for $175. Make that money.

ACKSHUALLY

The Ask DNA single was released as a 12" but it was part of an extremely limited promotional campaign, i've only ever seen one copy for sale. It had a generic white sleeve with a Seatbelts sticker.

The rest I agree with, espically since Flying Dog just issued a remaster of all the original soundtrack albums.
