Re: US Tour ANNOUCED
Thrown together quickly? This has been in the works for some time, imo. Sawao talked pretty boldly of his plans to come back here this year back in Febuary 2017 on his podcast, I imagine that they were already starting to discuss the possibilities and figure out when and how to make this work (or at least thinking about it) at that point!
Then it should have been announced some time ago. I'm sure he's wanted to come back here for some time but that obviously didn't turn into a reality until very recently. One month is not much notice for people who are gonna have to travel out of state. The new season won't even be done airing by the time the tour starts. Weird timing.

Re: US Tour ANNOUCED
Oh my, I just feel really emotional right now :') . It's just a really strange feeling,--after so much time, from first finding the pillows on tv and being a child and then a few years later watching them in Chicago and following so closely so long ago... and now they are coming back like this, and it almost feels like how I felt back then, but on an older me. It feels as though so much has changed and also not so much has changed. Now I just need to scrape up a pile of money really quickly!

Weird timing.
I don't know anything about booking venues, but does anyone know the typical lead time? Scheduling 7-city US tour with dates and an order that makes sense, must require at least a few months preparation and planning. But to not hear about it until about a *month* before they go on stage strikes me as pretty odd. As I understand it, venues will generally mix of rented time slots and programmed events. For rented time slots, they don't have any role in actively promoting your event - they're just letting you use their space/services. For programmed events, you show up as an event on their calendar, and they're actively involved in promoting your show online and around the city. This whole thing raises a lot of questions for me then: - Do the pillows currently have time slots in 7 cities? If so, are they showing up on any venue's calendar yet? - Why was the official news of the tour broken in the venue of an anime convention panel, and so incompletely? (Next *month*? When and where? What the hell?) - If the shows were planned so quickly and maybe haphazardly, does this impact their ability to sell tickets? Not that the pillows are overly concerned with ticket sales at this point in their career, I'm just curious about how word will get out and what that turnout is going to look like. Anyway! Excited for this. I should be able to make it down for the Seattle show. I imagine I may see Orochi, Mr Lostman, and discovolante there (any other PNW busters gonna be around?). And I guess I'm seeing Mare there too apparently??

Re: US Tour ANNOUCED
I can't wait to argue about how bad new pillows material is during their set! Nah but anyway in all seriousness, I hope a few of you are able to catch multiple shows, would be dank. Regarding the form of announcement, didn't a lot of pillows-related news come via the anime pipeline in the past as well? I think it makes plenty of sense when you consider the fanbase being targeted and the companies involved, lol. I don't recall the pillows ever really getting any proper music news coverage from western media, but the anime scene has a big ol' soft spot for them and that's going to be their most reliable marketing area in the West, at the end of the day. Clearly word is spreading plenty quickly, I think it'll be okay. I just hope that they manage to book some additional shows somehow (but am not holding my breath with the whole going independent from Avex thing; they're probably doing fine but I don't recall them hooking up with Adult Swim to sponsor the more recent tours).

Re: US Tour ANNOUCED
It's more to do with the fact that with barely a month before the tour, the seven cities haven't even been announced yet. The usual haunts don't have anything on the calendar yet either.

Re: US Tour ANNOUCED
Who here remembers Ajikan throwing down some US shows out of the blue? Announced in mid-late May for early July back just this other year. Happens lol.

Re: US Tour ANNOUCED
I updated the original post, but if you watch the stream of the panel (about 4 minutes and 30 seconds in), they say that the tour will start in July.
The dude says "...starts in... June?" before being corrected to July.

Re: Adult Swim Sponsored US Tour in July
July it is then! a little more time to plan. It would be neat to meet some of you at a show. Once again, thanks for being so on top of things, Mafu.

There looks to be a San Francisco show on the 18th at August Hall. Same line up.
