This is actually the exact bit of footage/sound that got me into the pillows. By the time the series had started airing, I had downloaded a bunch and become a fan just from hearing the guitar work in this promo.

my first song was Biscuit Hammer, via a fanmade file for a bootleg Guitarfreaks/Drummania emulator. Someone suggested I check out Fooly Cooly and sent me that same link and I remember thinking....eh...

It actually took me like..another 3 years and two albums later to check out Fooly Cooly

Post FLCL Sequel petition/thinktank/
Okay, so I've been thinking a lot about this whole scenario and I've realized that we have the potential to actually get some major input IF the pillows get on board. This is the largest fansite, so we already have the voice, and don't we have some contest winners from that recent cover contest among us? That alone should be enough for Toonami to give us an ear. We need to strike NOW while they are still in pre-production before anything gets finalized.

We should organize a petition, a list of our personally selected songs that would fit the new anime. Basically we have a large group chat where we select scenarios(i.e. action scene, love scene, lonely walking home scene,) and then have people make an argument for why this song should be used for that scene. That way it can be a civil and serious process, rather then just I LIKE DAT SONG, DATS MAH JAAAAM.

Eventually we could whittle it down to about 3-5 songs per scenario as a suggestion.
ALSO in terms of throwback, the pillows could always just release another "greatest hits or redos" just so that they can use X song from whatever label right?

In terms of what songs we want to reuse, we should probably limit it to only the most important ones. Remember we want to bring in MORE fans and show the world there are more then just 3 pillows songs. *I swear to Ba'al, if they play hybrid rainbow AGAIN on their next tour I'm gonna stop going.

Finally Terra could email the PR people directly in a very nice formal letter representing the fans. (In the meantime can someone start doing the research on who we need to start contacting?)

aaaand if they dooon't end up signing up the pillows, well then we can always use the thinktank to pump out a really good band or something I dunno, lets shoot for next weekend for the first meeting?

Eh, I wouldn't want to cramp a director's style with the angst of a fringe fan group. Artistic integrity and all that shit.

Just suggestions, not demands.
Good ending: we get quality out of this
bad ending: we gave them ideas.

Trust me, as an artist, one thing that artists ALWAYS want is feedback.
If nothing else, we end up giving them really good ideas and we get a better then what it could have been.

Yeah, I'm more of this mind as well. Merging topics to the FLCL sequel thread.

"first time" around the anime wasnt a treasured memory yet...
I feel like the past 5 pages of wishlists says a lot that people want things out of this sequel, but also dont want them to poop all over something they love. This is seriously, your chance to make it happen with consumer input. Video game companies have been doing this quite frequently over the past few years.

This is your chance to make a difference.

Video games are more of an interactive medium, so it makes more sense for there to be input from the target audience as to what sort of things they would enjoy, in my opinion. People often consider art to be best left to its own devices, even though one could certainly find ways to utilize community input without negatively impacting artistic integrity in theory.

Not to discourage you from pursuing something like that if you find other people to be interested, but I do think you may have trouble finding a significant number of fans who would go along with the idea.

Post Re: FLCL sequel
FLCL exists because the people making it were doing what they thought was cool, throwing all sorts of things at the wall without inhibition. Well-meaning fans micromanaging it from outside would totally kill the spirit of the work. (Also, realistically you're not going to make a difference anyway.)

Also, if the new production team can't even be trusted to pick songs that fit the show, there will be far worse problems with the show than that. If they're at all competent, the soundtrack will be just fine. Just let things happen.

I didn't hate it. My biggest gripe is how basic the animation looks. FLCL had a lot of style, and I was skeptical from the start about Production I.G working on this. It's not bad it just looks very typical.
