Re: the pillows general thread
awesome to see the pillows being honoured with such epic displays. that giant buster-kun looks like it's gonna inspire many robbery fantasies. any pillows attractions over at the shibuya store? soooo the "yamanaka sour" is really just a white wine spritzer? or is there some nuance that i'm missing here?

Written in Japanese, the only difference between "Yamanaka Sawao" and "Yamanaka Sour" is that the "oh" in Sawao is replaced with a prolonged sound mark, which makes it into "sawaa", which is "sour" in katakana. (山中さわお・山中サワー) Why it's actually a spritzer instead of a proper sour, though... I don't know. The Shibuya store just has a couple pretty standard displays. Nothing as cool as the window display in Shinjuku, though.

Re: the pillows general thread
Thanks for the pictures~ I spent so much time in those shops when I was over there...I wish I would have gone later so that I could have seen/tasted all the pillows stuff. Maybe next time...?

Re: the pillows general thread
I was there at the end of last year and spent ages in every music store, too. Tower Records Shibuya and DiskUnion Shinjuku are like stops on a spiritual pilgrimage. Somewhat unrelated: when I was at Tower Records Shibuya, I noticed they still had Our Black Flag box sets in stock (just the placeholder boxes on the shelves, though). They're also still in stock online, too. Unbelievable! Wish I had the cash and flippancy to pick up a second copy, just to preserve it and let it appreciate in value.
My local Tower still has Our Black Flag, as well. I never bought that set, and have kinda been playing around with the idea of purchasing it. But... even when I buy a live DVD/Bluray, I really only watch it a couple times ever. And there are other things that I'd rather spend 30,000+ yen on at the moment. Come to think of it, I haven't seen several of the live DVDs and most of the ones in that set. I have always really wanted those Busterkun plushies that they released around the Pied Piper tour. I finally got the orange one the other day. I just need to collect the black one now.

Re: the pillows general thread
Totally not worth buying the set if you're not gonna watch it much. I personally don't watch a whole live DVD ever, but I'll quite frequently watch through a few songs at a time (I watch some Pillows at least once a week if not many more). Anyway, the set isn't that great considering a lot of the video is upscaled from DVD quality and it's only got mock tour passes as bonuses (coulda thrown in some stickers or a booklet or SOMETHING), but if you haven't got any of the individual video releases in the box and are gonna watch 'em a bunch, it's a great way to fill out your Pillows collection with one fell swoop. And niiiiice Buster-kun! The band hasn't really sold plushies throughout their career, right? Seems like a no-brainer: mascot based off deformed teddy bear + plenty of fans who love your band and your iconography = $$. I'd definitely take plushies over the waves of tour shirts with weird Engrish catchphrases printed on them.

Re: the pillows general thread
Does anyone know the story of the original Buster-kun? Like who made him and put him in that shop window... and why?

Re: the pillows general thread
I bet that even the band is unsure of what the deal was with the original Buster-kun. Let's hope no one comes after the pillows for ripping off their teddy bear design!

Re: the pillows general thread
I'm pretty sure that no one really knows much about the "original" Busterkun. Not sure how we would go about finding info on it, either. Some months back, Thomas was identifying some of the London locations in the Kanojo wa Sister video, and I suggested that he try to do the same with Hybrid Rainbow. It obviously isn't still on display there, but it might help narrow down the search if we know a general location. If we could somehow track down the artist or something, that Busterkun would be the holy grail.

Re: the pillows general thread
Would seriously be interested in finding out the story behind Buster-kun's inspiration in more depth. Probably not gonna happen considering how out-of-production items from even a well-known brand can become nigh-on-impossible to find...but them's the stuff of dreams lol.

Re: the pillows general thread
Hey, folks. I just scored my tickets for the NOOK IN THE BRAIN tour and I'm pretty excited. I'll be going to both the shows at Akasaka Blitz (June) and the tour final at Zepp Tokyo (July). I can imagine that the setlists are gonna be insanely cool for this tour.
