Also see: don't fix what isn't broken; don't reinvent the wheel, good musicians imitate great musicians steal, etc. etc. etc.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
i think that the similarity of one song to another is usually irrelevant if the song that is alleged to be a "copy" is able to affirm its own identity to the listener, distinct from that of the song to which it is compared. "one life" definitely does that; it's not only unquestionably pillows, it's also an astoundingly beautiful song in its own right.
Also see: don't fix what isn't broken; don't reinvent the wheel, good musicians imitate great musicians steal, etc. etc. etc.
very true. noel gallagher of oasis, for example, is proudly (and notoriously) embracing of his influences, so there's a certain irony in accusing the pillows of ripping off oasis. furthermore, oasis' rhythm guitarist bonehead said it best in the definitely maybe 10th anniversary doco when he evaluated accusations of plagiarism against noel as merely symptomatic of being a pop songwriter: there's only so many pop chord progressions in the world, and when you "write" one down, it's almost assuredly been done before.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
I constantly use the IVmaj7-Imaj7 chord progression from kimi to boku to otsukisama, at literally every chance I get. Dreamiest sound desu.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
i picked up the similar but simplified IV-V-I myself from having been consecutively obsessed with One Life, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Ging Nang Boyz's Ginga Tetsudou no Yoru over the past few years. all those songs are very dear to my heart so i definitely overuse the IV-V-I due to the strong impression they have left on me. definitely gonna try out that IVmaj7-Imaj7 on loop tomorrow; hope i can induce a trance state.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
While we're talking about chord progressions we love, I-V-IV >>>>>>> I-IV-V, fight me. Edit: IV-V-I is absolutely sick, though.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
dlbia was releaded in 1995, One Life was 1998...plenty of time for Sawao to be influenced by Oasis.
If I didn't know better, I would have guessed they were sister songs. Even the strum patterns of the rhythm guitar seem similar to me. I'm a huge fan of both songs.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Jamming tons of Eastern Youth atm; actually just discovered a bunch of their albums in FLAC on Soulseek which I couldn't previously find in FLAC, which fills out a lot of gaps in mine and others' collections. Also just watched a clip from their Arabaki Rock Fest '16 set, and their new lady bassist is great. She doesn't use a fretless like their Ninomiya but she's got just as much skill as him to play these rigorous and constantly active bass lines.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Thanks for the shares, Dim. Definitely some interesting stuff. I've been listening to a lot of lo-fi hip hop beats lately (think Nujabes.) This youtube channel has been quite a boon in providing low-key pleasant music that isn't too distracting, but keeps the mind engaged: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhpSjWadvh0

It's amateurish but a lot of the ideas are really intriguing. While we're on the subject of hip hop, here's a hot new track from a Ging Nang Boyz collaborator / new signee on Abiko Shinya's label.
