Re: The Last Show you Went to/Next Show you will Go to

I wonder what Japanese bands who tour the US think of our audiences. On one hand I wonder if they feel even more like rock stars, but I also wonder if they think "God guys, calm the F down, you're gonna hurt someone".
I wonder about that too. Honestly, the atmosphere of the Japanese rock show was one of the biggest culture shocks to me when I went there. I wonder what Japanese audience members might feel, too, being at a US show...I brought one Japanese person I know to see Bully earlier this year, but I don't know how to consider the results because he had promptly gotten very drunk and fit right in with the chaos. I suppose it must depend on the person, like everything else.
As long as we're speaking in general terms here, I think that a lot of Japanese fans secretly want to go crazy but are held in check by that pesky culture of theirs'. At the last pillows anniversary show for example, there were people going pretty hard (I danced to about half the set with this one random fan, and we just about created a mosh in our little localized zone - together with a few other radicalized fans).
It follows then-- if they come over here to the US to see a show, that they can just let that animal out of its cage to be free a lot easier. Rock drives us all in that direction, though some cultures may have more or less stringent filters for live-show expression. Some shows in Japan can get pretty crazy too though, these days.

I feared that I lost my chance last year to see the Zombies when they stopped through Milwaukee (and I haven't heard of them playing shows here often--not anymore, anyway), but I am pleased to see that they plan to stop in the Twin Cities to do an Odessey and Oracle 50th Anniversary show. Needless to say, I snatched up some tickets on presale.... I really don't know how they're sounding nowadays, but regardless, to hear the album live just once will be a treat for my life. I so love some of those songs--they're so classic and beautiful.

Saw Brand New (always insanely good) again the other week, but Modern Baseball started their set early, so we missed them. Front Bottoms were pretty solid, but missing MB was a bit of a bummer. Next up is Kevin Devine tonight and then double Porter/Madeon at the end of the month. Hype hype hype.
Some shows in Japan can get pretty crazy too though, these days.
Not sure if we're counting Japanese punk shows, but those are as crazy or even crazier than Western punk shows. I've definitely seen fellatio at a Japanese punk show on DVD. And I'm sure the crowds at G.I.S.M. and Stalin performances back in the day were nuts, too.

Re: The Last Show you Went to/Next Show you will Go to
Just finished 3 out of 3 nights for the Shelter tour (Porter Robinson x Madeon) in Los Angeles.
My body is dead, and I think I may have experienced peak concert just now. Literally the greatest show I have ever seen in my life. What makes each of them so good as artists is the way they craft these cohesive sets where musical, rhythmic, and visual themes recur and interweave into a grander whole. This tour is taking the base materials of two of the best sets crafted and weaving them together into an incredible tapestry, where each piece is a symphony of up to 7 or more songs woven together in multiple little "acts."
Exceeded every expectations in every way possible. Not sure when/if I will ever see anything quite that well-crafted again in my life.
Got Shinobu and Sorority Noise both coming through in mid-December to look forward to!

Long time no post. Hey everyone!
I went to see Alex G, Hop Along, and Built to Spill in Athens Georgia in September. What a show. Kind of bummed that Alex G only played for like 30 mins.
I was super into Elliott Smith for the longest time, still am, and I felt as though Alex G's Winner album reminded me somewhat of smith. I listened to Winner when I first heard of Alex G. I would for sure recomend his album Beach Music; pretty good stuff. Talented young man. https://sandy.bandcamp.com/album/beach-music

2017 is shaping up great already...January, Tokyo Police Club are touring their first EP in it's entirety for it's anniversary, easily my favorite work of theirs, so excited. They always put on a great show!
Then in March, I have tickets to see LITE again, this time with Mouse on the Keys, who I never thought I'd see outside of Japan! So pumped.

A lesson in Crime? if so, awesome! I've yet to see them live.

That's the one! GREAT live band, catch them if you can. This will be numero 4 or 5 for me.

I've only listened to Noodles from the Life is Delicious/Electric Rays split artist album. They are playing close by me. Are they worth seeing for 30 bucks?

Re: The Last Show you Went to/Next Show you will Go to
May want to double-check that it's actually noodles from Delicious Label, apparently there's some other artist with the same name which has been touring lately (the other month my friend group all had a false alarm over that).
Cool if it is them, though. They're not bad live, by any means, even if I am an outspoken proponent of Yoko's need to get good at guitar lololololol.
Edit: only two shows listed on their web site, both in Japan (but later this month); English web site lists 2010 shows. Idk breh.
