Would love to hear that. :groovin:

I've definitely taken some chord progressions from Sawao, my favorite probably being the back-and-forth IVmaj7-Imaj7 verse progression that he used in Kimi to Boku to Otsukisama. Their discography is littered with these little pieces of absolute perfection that you'd be a fool to not quote in your own music when the song is appropriate for it, lol. :shred:
Lonesome Diamond is definitely underrated. Also, Noboranai Taiyou.
Almost all of Penalty Life is pretty underrated, imo. "Noboranai Taiyou" is both beautiful and intricate.

Heh, you're in luck! We posted a recording of that song from a show we played a few weeks ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLFY22kjdKU (I'll add it to the post your songs thread too.)

Drum-wise, sometimes it feels like there's not much to work with, since Shin's drumming (especially in the past decade or so) has been so straightforward. But every once in a while, he'll play something subtle that just works so well that, even though it may seem simple and straightforward on the surface, is perfect for quoting in your own music.

Indeed! I think it's actually my favorite from that album.

I had a wretched day at work, (I started a second job at Red Lobster, and holy shit I was not expecting it to be so cosmically different to be a dishwasher there compared to Eat'n Park, I'm getting rekt when I shouldn't be and it's making me hella  ) and then I did something silly on the way home that cost a few more hours, so I played Rod Stewart - Young Turks and Noboranai Taiyou and imagined myself performing them and I feel pretty good now, haha. :)

Tokyo Bambi
Climbing On The Roof

glad to hear your day picked up, man! best of luck in turning around your job situation.

and gotta agree with Tokyo Bambi. sounds ridiculous as hell at first but the appeal sets in eventually; its just so energetic and upbeat, and the chorus and verse melodies are great.

Tokyo Bambi and Ladybird girl are such a fantastic pair of singles. Love the lyrics, love the songs, love the videos.

Not sure if Hiking is underrated or we just don't talk around here as much as we used to, but I feel like EVERYONE loves that b-side. :groovin:

Yessssss! Like The Smiths and early Oasis, many Pillows tracks that are of higher quality than actual album cuts are unfortunately relegated to B-side status, and "Snoozer" is certainly one of those. Stick it in place of "Song for You" on Moondust and the album is improved, trust me!

Hm, Kanojo wa Shisuta and Hello Girl are my #1s of White Incarnation and Moon Gold, respectively. Though to be fair, those albums are often under-discussed when it comes to the pillows, feels like.

I've been on an oldies Pillows kick now for over a year. White Incarnation and Mood Gold have been treating me well. I always find something new about an older song that switches me on it.

"Purple Apple" is a rad pick, for sure. Pied Piper is such a square peg in the band's discog imo but the weirdness often works, esp. on "Purple Apple". The song really crystallises at the rockin "what is happiness" chorus.

Most of Pied Piper could probably be called underrated imo; and perhaps also all of the first four of the pillows' Avex albums. (I think the general consensus is that that period was sort of a slump for the band?) "Pied Piper", "New Animal", "Last Holiday" and "Tokyo Bambi" are all great cuts that the band has rarely revisited since the album tour, which is such a shame. "No Surrender" and "Poison Rock'n'Roll" are great too, but of course they were the pillows' choice closers for a (surprisingly) long time. All that said, I'm glad a "Last Holiday" video was filmed so long after the song's initial release; it's cool to know that the band thought that awesome song was worth coming back to.

I can see that. They were changing there style a little bit. Not a whole lot, but definitely different.

Glad you mentioned last holiday; that song rocks :shred:
