I don't think Horn Again and Ooparts are very similar at all sound wise. The only similarity is that they contain some of the pillows' weakest work out of the whole discography.
It's mostly that, but that era is also a time of a slump for me in regards to pillows listening. I was away for a while, metaphorically, and when I got back into it in a strong way, these two were the latest albums and both terribly disappointing. So it's a personal thing as to why I group them together, not so much a similarity in and of themselves. I admit they sound very different,
Song For You is not as bad as I thought it was going to be for what it is. It's perfectly pleasant.
Yeah I was going to share this unpopular opinion, too... that Song for You ISN'T that bad. ...It's not great, and the Engrish is goofy, (as usual), but it's not really that bad to listen to, in my opinion.

I also like Prairie Rider, and I want to like it more--it's one of those songs that I feel could be good, but there's just something not quite right. That's the deal with the whole record, as everyone has said.

People have always been encouraging me to be more proactive about problem solving, so I got to thinking that we should take what's here, and make it work better for us. We all agree the production is hideous, so maybe we should all take a song and cover it to make it sound how we want it to sound. It could be a fun project

Am I the only one who felt like Song For You was one of the better songs on the album? (I'm being serious)

I liked it, too! I'm not sure what the actual complaint with it is.

I mean, the lyrics are incredibly silly. But they're not hard to ignore, IMO.

Oh, and Prairie Rider is cool, too.

I didn't actually notice that Break a time machine! and Song For You were in English until I looked it up just now. I figured there were just a few isolated English lines and the rest was Japanese.

*shrug* :groovin:

Haha, most of the time Sawao's English is so bad I can simply write off his vocal as pleasant nonsense. At least, where the Engrish songs are concerned.

It's not the engrish for me. It's simply the song being boring.

I think this album's mediocrity finally made the mediocrity of the last 3 or 4 albums altogether really sink in for me. I just feel disappointed whenever most of the album plays.

I'm done raining on the parade though. I won't post for a while here haha.

Excatly, it's not the Engrish that kills it for me. I'd never slander someone's attempts at speaking another language (though when it's a musician who can do just fine in his native language, I get it, what's the point). But the lyrics are just so cheesy, I get a cringe thing going when I hear them.
I often think of Ooparts and Horn Again in the same vain. Mostly forgettable to me, they came out around the same time, so I regard them almost as one thing...they'd be like tied at the bottom in my list.
Ooparts and Horn Again were released more than a year apart, and I can't for the life of me see any similarity between the songs or general mood of them. So I'm going to just repeat my assertion that you guys are all crazy :)
I think you misunderstood what me and others are saying. It's not that the albums sonically sound the same... it's the fact that the entire structure of the album is the same. Yea, Primer Beat sounds way different from Doggie Howl. And Johnny Strobe sounds very different from Emerald City. But it's the same dynamics all the way through. Energetic opener. Crazy half-ass Engrish song. A couple up tempo songs. Some slower tempo/ballad songs. Crazy/goofy closer. It's all formulaic, and you could basically switch any song with its counterpart from the past four albums without it altering the makeup of the album itself. That's because, as I said, Sawao has released the same type of album five times in a row with the pillows, and Moondust is no exception.

Someone said it earlier, it's more like Sawao gathered a collection of songs, shuffled them, and threw them on a disc. There's no cohesion, outside of it being basically a set list for a live show. A lot of the individual songs are great, in fact I love several of them! But Sawao isn't reinventing anything lately, like when he experimented with some synthy sounds of TYMT, or focused on dueling guitars for Good Dreams, and so on and so on. Once you get the same things five albums in a row, it starts to taste a little... bland. :( Sawao just needs to get out of this weird comfort zone of his.

I feel like I'm in the minority here but I really enjoyed OOParts and Horn again :\

However, they were the first full length pillows albums I listened to so I might be a bit biased(I'm fairly late to game here).

I also enjoyed Penalty Life. What is/was the forum's opinion on that album?
