Re: 2014.10.04 - 「BOOTLEG THE PILLOWS 1992-1993」
There is zero reason for them to make the audio worse on purpose, lol. The only two viable possibilities I can think of are either that some of the tapes were improperly stored and thus damaged, like you suggested, or that some of the demos were done in studio and others were DIY with a four-track or something. If you don't know how to audio engineer/don't have good recording equipment, you're going to likely get poor tone for drums and bass (and lack of clarity in general), especially back in the early 90's lol.
Didn't Sawao state at one point that there was material he wanted to release but couldn't due to the label holding the rights? A few of these could have been studio recordings that they slapped a couple of filters on and called a "bootleg".
It's just a thought.

It's a very, very nonsensical one.
Edit: no offense, it just REALLY doesn't make sense. Degradation of quality does make sense, low quality of recording to start with does. Adding a "filter" is just absurd.

It says that Ueda is on bass for tracks #8 and #9 And that Ueda wrote track #8 (Cooper's Poster) with Sawao.
Kashima is on bass for everything else.

Do the liner notes tell us when each song was recorded?

The recordings were obviously intended just to be demos. I think they just didn't give as much care to them as they would have given to something they planned to release. Why work so hard when you're just going to redo it later (if at all)?

Yeah, but why would you record something like Flash Candy which sounds album quality and then NOT put it on Kool Spice or Living Field? I've asked Manabe for clarification, hopefully he knows something lol.
I've asked Manabe for clarification, hopefully he knows something lol.
lol wut??? You've got some sort of direct line to Manabe? No pressure if so, but hey, maybe ask him if they also plan to release more of said bootlegs from different eras in the future, and if so, whether the original Liberty and Future is gonna be on them? I will love you forever

Hm... I've spoken directly to Manabe on facebook a few times. But it was just the general praises.
If we could just get one more bootleg release for 1994 or 1995, that'd be pretty rad. I just want mah full original Liberty and Future, if they exist.

lol there is no need to ask him, recording at least a few studio demos is standard practice when gearing up to get an album made, or at least it was, as far as I'm aware. But let us know what he says!

Re: 2014.10.04 - 「BOOTLEG THE PILLOWS 1992-1993」
Hey guys, It's been a long time since I have posted on this forum. My old username was Planobuster, and I remember speaking with a few of you over the years.
Anyway, I've listened to Bootleg (thank you to those that were able to upload the data), and I am thoroughly enjoying this album. I agree with some that the previously released versions of songs like Kanojo Wa Kyou are preferred, though both knowing that they were previously conceived and these versions having their own uniqueness still leaves me in awe.
Flash Candy, Hello, Friend, Swingers a go go!, Cooper Poster, and the third track that's a bit more mellow are all great! I still can't believe that after all of these years I can still get the chills and super hyped over The Pillows. Nothing else does it for me!
