Album you most frequent?
Sorry, I know this is another one of those posts. A post-your-favorite-thing-and-ditch thread where little to no discussion is achieved. No discourse. But we can be better, I think.
Basically, I think it's safe to assume that most if not all of us here listen to the pillows a hell of a lot less than we used to. Over the past two or three years I've probably averaged ~3 songs a month. Kinda sad, but recently I've been finding myself relapsing. Partial album listen here, partial album listen there. Mainly tooling around in my comprehensive (of course) pillows library trying to scratch an itch that isn't really there.
Any similar sentiments? Where does your thumb land when you're in the odd mood for some Yamanaka? I normally end up listening to Another Morning, Another Pillows. Safe, solid bet. Twenty songs, no bad tracks, lots of texture & style variation, and some great songs I suppose I slept on over the years. Cherry really kicked me in the balls. The way Manabe leads into the chorus.. pretty badass m8. Plus b-sides are always cool.

Re: Album you most frequent?
A tad predictable I'm sure, but I often bring PML and/TYMT with me on road trips if I'm in my car that doesn't have a tape deck for ipod toonage.

Re: Album you most frequent?
I find myself listening to the pillows quite a bit still. Maybe not so much in the past 2-3 weeks, but the pillows are something I can always put on no matter what. They're typically the only band I will put "on shuffle" with my iPod. But then I also find myself taking a long time to find what I want to listen too. Something from the holy trinity? Something newer? Something from the first two movements? But I think I'll find myself gravitating towards Happy Bivouac and AMAP a lot. Usually AMAP, because like Aplaca said, there's a lot of variation, and it's from the band's best overall period (PML-TYMT). I've said it before, but AMAP is basically a greatest hits album for the pillows. Sawao was truly able to do no wrong.

Re: Album you most frequent?
I've got over 12 cds of songs I burned that I listen to while driving most of the time, so obviously I listen to them less at home, except for live videos and such. It's interesting actually how my taste in pillows' songs changed from the first to the last cd I made. The first was mostly stuff from FLCL, then I was just finding songs to make cds that I didn't listen to much and actually ended up liking them more.

Re: Album you most frequent?
It's funny. There are times where I don't listen to the pillows much at all, and recently has definitely one of those trends. But when I do, I find it's mostly stuff outside of the holy trinity. I probably listen to PML/LB/RH/HB less than a lot of their other stuff. When I listen to stuff off of those albums, it's super awesome. Cuz I only do it "when the time is right", but yeah.
I find myself listening to weird one offs like crazy. Like, this morning I blasted "I DON'T CRY" on the way to work. I love that song. Always have. I also listen to some of the more recent singles semi-often.
Living Field is the album I frequent most often though. Because that's one of the best albums of all time, imo. It's like listening to classical music, I never tire of listening to it. It's so intricate and complex.

Re: Album you most frequent?
According to my iTunes "Top 25" playlist, I listen to..."Back seat dog" more than anything in my entire library, followed by "Good Dreams" and "Beautiful Morning With You."
I find myself specifically seeking out songs from "My Foot" and "Happy Bivouac" a lot. Besides that, I go through phases. I'm always listening to something by them, but it shifts between the different movements. Some days I like my pillows jazzy, others I like them with more energy. I went through a phase of listening to "White Summer..." every day.
I went through a phase of listening to "White Summer..." every day.
I can see why That said, I'm not really an album listener..I purchased just a couple of albums of them. More for having than listening, hehe. Those albums are Penalty Life, Turn Back (twice, lol), Runners High, White Incarnation and Once upon a time in the pillows. Of these I think I've listened the most to WI and RH as a whole album. WI for the more laid back days and RH for the more high-energy days. But, I've listened to WI more, with the whole album + songs separately. I love the vibe and atmosphere on it, and yeah 'she's my sister, sitting on a paper moon, right here like this, tonight, good night, our Halley's comet.... just too much goodness

Re: Album you most frequent?
I listen to the pillows when they release something new and get in the mood to revisit miscellaneous past works for about one week or a few days annually. That's probably far less time spent listening to them than the majority of members here, but I follow a ton of bands and I'd rather find something new rather than listen to the same thing over and over.
During the cover contest, I listened to the pillows more than I had in a long time. The album I most frequented was Runners High. It's a beast of an album that deserves to be recognized among their best works.

Re: Album you most frequent?
I go through phases just like everyone else, and the album I reach for depends on my mood and what's going on in my life. PML is my autumn stand-by. It suits the season so well. It's kind of difficult for me to narrow it down to a single album as "most frequented" though. I suppose everything from Kool Spice to PML, along with the singles and B-sides in that range, make up the chunk of their discography I've listened to most. I listen to the holy trinity now and then, but mostly only select tracks. For instance, Last Dinosaur while at the gym = me getting hella pumped up. Their newer stuff has less replay value for me. I listen to it a fair bit when it comes out, and then only sparingly. My Foot through Horn Again gets almost zero play unless one of the good tracks comes up in shuffle.
Now and then I'll load their discography onto my iPod, go for a long drive and put it all on shuffle. When I do this, I always stumble upon an old gem that I haven't listened to in a while and I remember what my life was like when I first discovered the band. Different albums or tracks tend to rouse diverse memories.
I feel like I could go on and on lol. Like pretty much the rest of you, I grew up listening to them, so their stuff is extra special to me. I may go for a month or even a few without listening to them a whole lot, but when I do sit down to listen, it's still a very satisfying and emotional experience for me.

Re: Album you most frequent?
A little off-topic, but...
FLCL began airing in the US in August 2003.
This month, eleven years ago, marked my first encounter with the pillows.
Excuse me while I ruminate on that a while.

Re: Album you most frequent?
Smile and My Foot have been my go-to albums lately. There are a lot of good songs on those and I don't feel like I've overplayed them like the late-90s stuff. I still love those late 90s albums but I don't listen to them as often anymore.
I've always felt Smile was a really underrated album and as good as their late 90s stuff, and for me at least better than Runners High. Doesn't hurt that Good Morning Good News is probably my favorite opening Pillows track. With My Foot, I actually made my own mix for it where I swap out the lame tracks like Degenerate with the excellent B-sides from Nonfiction and Third Eye to make a real good album.
Also, I've always thought White Incarnation was a great autumn album (even if it's not quite as autumny as, say, the American Football LP.) Those colorful pumpkin fields, man.

Re: Album you most frequent?
I still listen to the pillows frequently, I have more pillows on my phone than any other band. I don't tend to single out albums to listen to, just keep it on shuffle. Songs from AMAP and HB definitely get the most play. AMAP pretty much for the reasons stated (great quality and so much variety) and HB because it is GODLY. Never skip any tracks.
