Re: The Pillows 25th Anniversary Dance & Cover Contest?
Hello old friends, Some of you may or may not remember me as Dizzid (I can't seem to recover the account though I'm sure I'm entering the info correctly?) on this board a few years ago. I made an attempt at this contest this time around but have run out of time. I made a countryish/jazzish/whateverish cover of Rain Brain but lack the resources and time to make the video. If anyone on the board has it in them to make a video, we should team up. The song is still a work in progress; the bass needs to be redone/remixed, some of the vocals will be re-recorded and more general mixing is needed. Have a listen: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/385 ... do%202.mp3(It should be immediately obvious, but I hardly pride myself on my singing) I modified the lyrics slightly to make them more...intelligible in the final verses: It rained for seven days running
Fortune turned against me
This man now lost his way
Oh yeah, Breeder, can you scold me?
The rain was a long time coming
It’s getting colder day by day
This soldier asks for leave
Oh yeah, Waiter, tea for one, please

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VCoP2RENLzY Aaaw...too bad this cover is so short. It's just so nice and pleasant. I wish there was some smooth sexy woman voice singing the lyrics ..would be perfect. I can almost hear her already.... Or a nice duet with a man..would be totally awesome. Some nice conga drums or something..hmmm

If you put a little more practice into breath control, you could become a very good vocalist for sure. I dig the cover a lot, if you want to just throw a video of some sort together super fast to get it up just so at least people can check it out, you totally should. Great job. Edit: Seriously, the instrument arrangement is wonderful.

Otherwise the video itself doesn't really need to be fancy, just record yourself singing/playing. You do need to be visible in the video to qualify (well, 'clearly identified'... which I assume just means visible) btw.

Yeah, get a few better takes with the vocals and put together a simple video and it's good to go! It's already one of the best covers I've heard since this contest started. Make it happen!
You have a great voice, btw.

I would love to shoot the video for you but unfortunately l already entered the contest so I would be endangering my video by disqualification if I was a part of two covers. If anything dude record yourself at the beach and get the overall "atmosphere" and "vibe" of the ocean and the sea breeze alongside you playing your guitar and singing and it will be a great cover! Use the Kanojo wa Kyou PV as a reference

Re: The Pillows 25th Anniversary Dance & Cover Contest?
Oh wow, thanks for the kind words.
I actually have a really nice camera and in theory should be able to make a video, but I have a kid (man, when I joined this board originally I was a kid) and a few more time constraints. I can make the time, but I'm just not optimistic about the quality of the result.
Looks like it might rain on Thursday, so I'll try to do some super dramatic shootery then. We'll see.
I would love to shoot at the ocean, but I'm in Austin TX and the beach is 3+ hours away.

Re: The Pillows 25th Anniversary Dance & Cover Contest?
It's really cool seeing contestants who participated in the the 20th cover contest return for this one. Uma's Kuchuu resistor cover is just as brilliant as his Orange Film Garden one. Also, bottineco did a cool Funny Bunny cover which we included on the fan tribute last time. He has entered the 25th with a Blues Drive Monster cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFuzW1ToRbYRemember her? See did a Strange Chameleon karaoke 5 years ago. This time she did a Lesser Hamster cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksqGCo86KL0Also, a friend of mine did a super unique r&b style Third Eye cover. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3CDbgYgwh8With less than a week looming in the application period, it's nice to see a lot of last minute entries coming in.

Awww how can I compete with a cute mascot... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfrNh9fC7IIThis appears to be the mascot of Rikuzentakata, a town that was almost wiped out by the 2011 tsunami. o_o

Oh wow. That was cute. Haha, my friend and I are working on a last minute dance entry for shits and giggles, but that mascot went and used a guitar for the strumming part! That's what we were gonna do, haha.

Re: The Pillows 25th Anniversary Dance & Cover Contest?
I think I have been practising my cover of 'Trip Dancer' for over 3 months now. We recorded the instrumental part the day before yesterday, was quite intense, but a lot of fun. The instrumental part is solid now. Then, yesterday, I had to record the vocal part...then everything went black. With rehearsals and practice session everything went fine, but then with the recording...I just missed half the notes, it was terrible. I don't think any mixing could fix that. I have a recording of me singing with guitar, that one is quite good, but the sound of the recording is too soft. Maybe the volume can be turned up a little bit, but then the problem would probably be that there will be too much background noise. Tomorrow morning the record-man will send the mixed version.... I got my fingers crossed, but yeah... Oh, I am so sad right now. The video was also half way already...but yeah... I don't know man...any advice?
