Re: What are you currently listening to?
Anamanaguchi's new album has leaked, and it's coming out for realz May 14th. It's unbelievably good, all their (admittedly excellent) prior music just feels like warm-up for this 22-song power rock assault.

Oh this is such excellent news. (And I just listened to Planet, off of the new album. I was blown away.)

Re: What are you currently listening to?
Anamanaguchi's playing a show in Vancouver later in the summer. Should I go? I looked up some live videos and I dunno, I'm not sure if their chiptune music (which I dig) is really best suited for live performances? Maybe I'm just not into instrumental rock played live? I dunno.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
They are coming here too. I want to go. I've been to a chiptune show (not Anamanaguchi) before and enjoyed it. They had some visualizations up on a screen, so that gave you a little bit to look at. But for me it was just about enjoying being immersed in the music.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
I haven't been to one of their concerts before so I have no idea how they are live; but I think the instrumentation probably has a stronger presence in a live setting, it can get buried under the NES sounds on the record.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
The new Strokes album is OK. It's weaker than I'd like-- weaker than anything else in their discography, IMO-- but worth downloading for free on the Internet, I guess. Anyone else listen to it yet?

Re: What are you currently listening to?
I've always thought The Strokes were vastly overrated. They should've named themselves Power Chords Also What Is Music Theory: The Band. Their first two albums had a few good song on them though.
I've been listening to rap music lately. I'm not sure what happened.

Wait, are we talking about Comedown Machine here? Because I thought that album was rad. Chances is my favorite track. Also the one that sounds like they're covering A-ha. Edit: I too have been cultivating an appreciation for the hip-hops and raps these days. But still mostly rock music.
Wait, are we talking about Comedown Machine here? Because I thought that album was rad.
Yep, Comedown Machine. It's all right, just underwhelming to me is all. And yeah, I agree The Strokes are a little overhyped, though their first two albums are pretty air-tight. Maybe this one will grow on me. Angles took a little getting used to, as did First Impressions of Earth.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
I'm not super familiar with their new hype that they may or may not have, but I'd disagree that they were always overhyped. Up through First Impressions of Earth, they were pretty rock solid. Simple, catchy, rock music for sure, but their hooks were awesome, the guitar work was fun.
Angles was meh, I loved Under Cover of Darkness, but not many other tracks blew me away. This new album, I got a free download of that one where they sound like A-Ha that Mare referred to, but it didn't blow me away and I haven't listened to the rest yet. I'm in no rush.
It's disappointing because they were so good. It's like Arctic Monkeys, they've gotten incrementally shoddier to me from the start. First album, amazing, love every song. Second album, awesome, only disliked one or two songs. Third album, mehh, only liked two or three songs.
As for what I am listening to, new Daft Punk is awesome, new QOTSA is great, new Vampire Weekend I love. But what I have to say I'm blasting every day is Capital Steez. Just recently heard about him a couple months ago from a newspaper article and I'm not disliking anything by him. It's rap, and it's fucking real shit. Such emotion and talent, I'm so bummed he killed himself at just 19 when he was about to get big.

The new Daft Punk album is indeed fantastic. You should listen to it immediately.

Re: What are you currently listening to?
I love Daft Punk but haven't been able to track down the new album. I've heard good things, though. Anyone have a link?

I feel like the new Daft Punka album is just iTunes/radio bait..

Re: What are you currently listening to?
My friend mentioned this to me before I really thought about it, but previous albums have a lot of Daft Punk making cool electronic/rock songs from disco samples, and this album is them making an original disco album with electronic/rock influences. Yes, many of the songs are super catchy/dancey, but I don't see this as a bad thing at all.

I guess I wasn't made to like Daft Punk. They've always been meh to me. Checked out the new album. Still meh.
