Re: What are some good Pillows songs to play and sing?
I think "can I be normally" would work better for you, since you're an actual English speaker. Thinking about it a little harder, it almost seems to me that it makes more sense than "can I be normal", but maybe I'm insane.

Can I be normal now? Can I be natural? Can I be typical? Can I be right again? Can I begin again?

Re: What are some good Pillows songs to play and sing?
The obvious change is "Can I be normal, please?" but I think that "Can I be normally" works just fine in an odd way, almost as though the "normally" were offset from the rest of the phrase.

"Can I live normally?" works too, and is also what I thought he was originally saying.

Re: What are some good Pillows songs to play and sing?
"Can I live normally?" examplifies why I think the phrase as sung originally is just fine, since "be" is just another verb, and in that sense "normally" almost fits better than "normal", with my way of thinking, anyway.

That's ungrammatical though. Normally and normal have different meanings. Normally is used to represent something that occurs usually or regularly. Normal falls along the lines of typical or ordinary.
Normally is an adverb, btw. Normal is an adjective.

"Can I be normally?" makes perfect sense. Sawao probably, and ironically, over-translated, "Can I be normal?" or essentially, "Can I exist normally?" Seems like a case of a foreigner technically being correct.. but still a little awkward lol.

Just sing "I smoke cannabis regularly."

Are you suggesting that he's referring to being in a certain constant state of mind; questioning himself if he could stay that way? You know, as if asking himself: "Can I be (like this)? Naturally?" Because I could see this work if intentional or not.

Thought so.
