Post Post-Rock
The last show I went to, Minus the Bear, had an opener named Caspian, and they were awesome.
Mono played in NYC last weekend.

All of this has reminded me of my love for post-rock when it's done well! Any one else a fan?
Here are some of my faves:
EITS: Your Hand in Mine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzIK5FaC38w
EITS: Welcome Ghosts*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyzkzDjbOIY
Mono: Moonlight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2toK3cIbYE
Mono: Follow the Map*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAV6g7la ... re=related
Caspian: Gone in Bloom and Bough*
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtMjq2LtgVQ
This Will Destroy You: Quiet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XROVlvrrV9U

*=listen to these fucking tracks because you'll feel things

I find it really therapeutic, even some of the heavier ones with extremely distorted guitars. It's great study music :shred:

I liked a song by Minus the Bear I recently checked out. I'll be looking into them a bit more closely.

Minus The Bear's not really post rock.

I like Beware Of Safety a lot (at least their first two albums.) Haven't listened to much post-rock sort of stuff recently, though.

Yeah, I was really surprised when that band Caspian came out, they were unlike the other two bands on the bill, but supremely awesome.

From the one song I have heard by Minus the Bear, they seem like they might have some post-rock moments, potentially. I don't really care about genres so I get a lot of crap when I use them, so it's possible I am wrong and my idea of "post-rock like elements" is incorrect in someway.

Anyways, all the other bands on the list were ok to boring for me. lol

They don't really have too man post-rock elements, they're kind of hard to qualify and define which is why I always just say indie rock. It says so little, but there really is not much more to say besides describing the techniques they use.

I'm surprised Tidus, I would've thought you to relate to some of this stuff with your classical background. This is my classical music

Agreed. Mono just played a gig in Jacksonville last week.

I missed it.

Another good recent-ish band is Maybeshewill. Red Paper Lanterns is a smokin' hot track. They're a little more aggressive than most post-rock bands so I'd just say that they're an instrumental group, but there's crossover appeal between the two genres.

toe is coming to the US for their first tour! They're playing at a cool little warehouse venue in Brooklyn for anyone nearby (Mare are you still in the city?)

Check the dates everyone, it will be a concert you should not miss!

I enjoy some Mogwai stuff, but they're a little heavy for me sometimes. I've always thought "shoegaze" when I think of them, though obviously there are many connections to be made between shoegaze and post-rock.
