Post Re: Noodles
So... can anyone upload some of their older albums? I'd like to give noodles another shot. I like a few of their songs I've heard here and there... but I need some albums.

I wanna be a hipster and be all like "Yeah I have the older albums of this fairly obscure pop band, here are the RARs" (not that it proves anything on IM, I feel like most OG Busters have at *least* God Cable on their iTunes.

But straight up, you should know what you're getting into. Yoko's voice is pretty goddamn rough, pre-Slow Coaster. And on Slow Coaster. There is very little positive going on with the vocals.

I can help you out though, in a double post soon.

That's cool. I'm not really looking for anything that's very polished. Just so lo-fi goodness. I've heard stuff off of recent Delicious compilations, and I like "She, Her" and "Hush Bell", but for the most part, I don't have a good idea of what they really sound like. Plus I've heard lots of praise. Maybe I'll like them. It's just that finding the old stuff is pretty hard. But I'm pretty much looking for some of their earlier stuff, and the "good stuff" (whatever that means to you), so if you wanna help me out, thanks!

Edit: I downloaded a bunch of their shit back when I first joined here, but I lost it all when that computer died. I remember not being impressed back then. Maybe I'll have a different opinion this time around? I dunno. My views on music have changed drastically.

Fuzz Hill mini EP: http://www.mediafire.com/?zak2ag7y5zf9kyj
A consistently awesome handful of tracks. I think NEW WAVE, black clover, and Empty Girl are probably in the top 10 Noodles tracks.

God Cable: http://www.mediafire.com/?aa7wt0tp5i69a37
Tied with Long Long Chain as best Noodles album. Top tracks are She, Her, Silent Apple, Hikari no Oto

Long Long Chain: http://www.mediafire.com/?6e1ke4f5s8xyhj0
I think Long Long Chain edges out just slightly for me, it's a little more consistent, it's highs are a touch higher. Top tracks are Hush Bell, Minimum Talk, Half Metronome for me.

Slow Coaster: http://www.mediafire.com/?w5v409s21jhlx75
Second full album after The Gravity Thief. Vocals are more polished than in the first album, but still a far cry from the vocals (or autotune) of today. Actually, yeah, the Slow Coaster vocals are still pretty awful. The "lo-fi" ain't charming here. Don't have many useful recommendations here.

Your best bang for the buck is with Fuzz Hill.

Noodles showed a lot of promise, but they're just spinning their wheels now, getting slowly more polished at the same boring three-piece sound because Yoko can't seem to be bothered to learn how to play guitar well. It's a shame, really.

Edit: Somebody let me know if the full album is more diverse and interesting though, plz.

I agree with the disappointed sentiment, but I don't think it has to do with Yoko's lack of technical skill. I think Yoko (and the rest of the group) has solid pop fundamentals. They get the melodies and key changes of simple pop, and honestly, I think that counts for a lot. The issue is that they take absolutely no risks and haven't tried to alter their sound in just about forever. Some of their music, like this new song, has kind of a...retro-pop feel, a 50s feel. Okay, fine - WORK WITH THAT. Turn down the distortion, turn up the reverb, give it some breathing room. Maybe put some effects on the vocals.

This is a little extreme for what I'm talking about, but here's kinda what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBkgcc-XCmo

That's Here Comes Mary by The Raveonettes. This is a band that knows their sound, and plays all those cards correctly. It's distinct, it works very well. Yoko and the gang need to do the same. Whether that's more twang, more reverb, more chorus, more harmonies, whatever - I'm sure they have the tools, they just need to DO IT.

Exactly what I mean. They're retreading the same pretty awesome sound until it's worn out for me. I like the sound, and it's getting increasingly polished, but it's not going anywhere new and it's not giving me reason to stay interested when it's just a marginally better iteration of what they've already accomplished. :(

Sounds like someone who has barely listened to Noodles would enjoy it. Perhaps.

Post Re: Noodles
Hiiii!

I joined instant music a few months ago and kinda forgot about it. But then one day I was being a creeper and this topic caught my attention.

I've actually been working a noodles fan site (titled Lesson 1). I will probably put it online one day if I feel it's good enough. But the things that will make it worthwhile are a nice collection of lyrics, music videos, album scans, and tabs (basically the stuff you can't find everywhere else on the internet).

I can't make a fan site worthy of noodles without help from their other English-speaking fans!

I have several of their albums, but not all. And my Japanese is okay, but not great. Posting a fair amount English lyrics won't be an issue, but transcribing Japanese lyrics will be very difficult for me. And translations will be near impossible! :[

This is where I was hoping you guys might want to help out. If anyone is comfortable enough with Japanese to transcribe/translate noodles lyrics (or knows where to find them online, at least for my own amusement if I can't get permission from the owner to post them), I will love you forever and give you unlimited hugs on demand. I plan on posting booklet scans for the albums I own, if it will help to look at the lyrics in Japanese script.

I also don't have the English lyrics from GOD CABLE and ivy. Tabs would also make a great addition to the site, if anyone wants to take a crack at those :]

I hope that with this website, noodles fans won't have to spend hundreds of frustrating hours searching the web just to find (or not find) the lyrics to Grease, or tabs for Half metronome. Every thing you could want will be available in one neat little website!

And, if enough fans are interested, maybe we could start up a forum too? :D

In the meantime, if any one has any requests for English lyrics, I'd be happy to post them here.

There used to be a noodles forum started by some members of this forum, but it looks like it's no longer up. There were quite a few lyrics translations and other useful things. Maybe someone has saved some of the info?

noodles announced a new cover CD "MAKE UP TO BREAK UP" and just uploaded a sample clip of the Breakaway cover PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg439-60SwA

Oh hey cabie, I know you from youtube. :) I can maybe help out with scanning cd booklets if needed, just have to dig out the ol' scanner. I have most of the noodles CDs, though I'm missing some.

Edit: Huh, I just realized I never posted an upload of Funtime. Anyone interested still? I know I posted it at Kyo Music City but that site is gone now. :(

ALSO if anyone is interested I made myself these noodles desktop backgrounds: (1680 x 1050)

thanks for these :D I assigned the first one as my desktop background.

Do you mind if I post these on Lesson 1? I think backgrounds would make a cool addition to the fun stuff section.
