Post Re: the pillows - TRIAL (Album Discussion)
Okay, so since I did this does that mean someone is going to upload a version of this album better than 128kbps?

the paragraph in bold is repeated twice.

(A Guitar With No Owner) by 山中さわお (Sawao Yamanaka)

I'm the only one living in this world
I'm right in the middle of that kind of penalty
The song I should've forgotten comes back to life,
僕を責めるように素晴らしい as if to scold me. How wonderful.

On other side of a silent building
The movie theatre's posters are dancing with the wind.
A guitar with no owner
Seems cold, isn't it? Can we become friends?
What do you think?

The death of a person and the sun; I can't look directly at either
Without being able to catch my breath
I was trying to vomit
Even though I'm not calling it
Dawn shows up uninvited
It's trying to present me with true solitude

I knew love, and became sad
Can't touch it with a soiled hand
I knew you, and felt pain
You can't be tricked by my lies
I knew darkness, and became at ease.
And so I can't go back anymore.
I knew myself, and came to hate it
If I could erase it, I want to blot it out

Until I burn myself out
It won't be much longer
I'm just one shooting star, that's all.

I second this request.

Thank you for the translation zorahk. I'll have to read this while listening, but it seems like a very sobering song where the subject is just completely alone in love. I'll have to analyze it more when I have more time.
Here's the album, got it in the mail this morning! Enjoy! :shred:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/0f9e80
THANK YOU SO MUCH :shred:
It sucks to be poor. :|

I'm so late in the game. :dizzy:

So many negative comments on this album... I initially thought most of the songs sounded strange, but then after giving this album some more attention I found myself appreciating TRIAL as a whole. (Especially when compared to the past previous albums)

Revival was totally unexpected.
From listening to the sample I thought that would be it's chorus, but I ended up loving how it builds tension up to that moment basically throughout it's whole entirety. Set a dark and creepy theme for the rest of the album. It was a lot less energetic than I imagined but I'm fine with it.

Rescue was pretty much what I thought it would sound like. There's a lot of bashing about it's chorus but I thought it was a relaxing contrast to the verses since those were pretty active. This song is constructed really well imo.

Comic Sonic just grows on me every time I hear it, which I noticed I'm not alone. I didn't think much of it at first other than the awesome animation that went with the PV. The sounds are unusual, but very exciting all the way through with a good chorus and solo. It sounds great live.

Flashback Story
I like the effects they used in the verses - it made it seem retro. The solo reminds me of something I'd hear in Moon Gold.
The chorus was boring though.

Energia - I think enough has been said about this song. It has good composition everywhere (still loving that bridge)... I personally like that fast-paced guitar lead going on in the end.

Polaris...or whatever it is - This one got much hate for being too slow and it probably is, but it seems like one of those songs that you have to be in a reflective mood for. Not sure whether I like it.

Minority Whisper - that's a cool title. The verses are kinda annoying but the prechorus and the chorus together make the song. Yeah, the lyrics could've been better but I think the message got through (somewhat anyway). The bass has this fuzz sound that I like.

Mochinushi no nai Guitar
I like this song's pace, it's very relaxing. I'm not sure if it's my imagination, but the lead in the first verse sounds like it picks up from Minority Whisper's chorus. Manabe's sweep picking bugs me a bit, but the first 2 minutes set the tone flawlessly to me (that includes the instrumental break). I think everything builds up to the solo just fine. Afterwards, I start to feel like it could've ended in so many places.

Trial
It's funny how a riff so simple can be so catchy. The main highlight of this song is the chorus though. It sounds uplifting yet somber at the same time. I just like the feeling I get whenever I hear it.

Ready Steady Go!
...... I dont know .... its fun and silly ... I guess?

I like this album. It's not really up to par to my taste but it was pretty consistent and has a clear theme. I'd say about 6/10 songs that I'd probably keep listening to.

Okay now let's take a look how Mochinushi works:
Verse - Verse - Instrumental break - Verse - Verse - Instrumental break - Second Verse - Second Verse - 'Bridge' - Solo - Second Verse - Second Verse - Third Verse - Third Verse - Ah - Bridge - Instrumental break - Verse - mini outro

What's confusing is that you expect...
What's unique is that you expect... is how I view it.

The lyrics absolutely fit the bill here, thanks zorahk! :shred:
Okay, so since I did this does that mean someone is going to upload a version of this album better than 128kbps?
NOPE, DEAL WITH IT 8)

lol, I guess you could ask scarecrow to upload it again at a higher bitrate, but I don't mind because I want a physical copy anyway.

that it didn't reach it's full potential
:edit: lol spelling errors
its*
>_<

And I'm glad you liked it. :)

I honestly never looked at the bit rate when I ripped the CD haha sorry. Here is one with a higher bit rate: http://www.sendspace.com/file/rs4efc

And here's even a FLAC version if anyone wants that kind of file:

Sorry to be a bother, but it looks like those FLACs are transcoded from the 128kb mp3s. The proper way to do it is to rip from the CD directly to FLAC. I'll post spectrograms to show this if anyone wants.

As for the album, it feels good to see the pillows take some risks with this album, even if some of them don't quite pay off. Fewer skippable tracks than other albums of late (Flashback Story :| ), and more nuanced arrangements--namely, rhythm guitar that isn't just a headache-inducing DUR-DUR-DUR-DUR-DUR-DUR-DUR-DUR (different chord) DUR-DUR-DUR-DUR. Me likey 8)

Sweet, better quality!
Also, I wish someone would have translated Horn Again. Specifically, Emerald City and Movement.

Oooh, I love your signature onga.
I was for a moment considering to put it as my signature, myself.

That chorus of Minority Whisper really rocks.
As if it is a light version of Sono Mirai Wa Ima. (not sure though, haven't listend to that song for ages)

Also thanks for the translation of Mochinushi, zorahk.

I can do those, but please people, help me out with requests in traders! not enough people view that topic, and I am stuck with low bitrate files for a few things. I also have pantomime in 256kbps VBR if anyone wants that? (It's a CD rip)

anyway, since its off topic, I'll post translations for those two songs in the lyrics forum, rather than in this thread.

Also, you guys should be using the app Lyrics Master for mac os x / windows, it will automatically source and add lyrics (in Japanese) to your files.

Let me go dig through my files. I definitely have better quality of Little Busters and...slightly better of Kool Spice.

Edit: I put some links up for you in the traders thread.

The title track:

(TRIAL) by Sawao Yamanaka

Under the cover of the farthest star
I'm going to search for a guitar
Setting out for a journey on the dawn that doesn't break
My breath is still white

Making excuses
I'm looking again
At the map which won't open anymore

Longing creates wounds; I denied tomorrow
What awaits at the end of the journey?
What will I feel?

The days which became dull
鈍くなりだした日々 by the small inconsistencies and falsehoods
Blow out the light of the soul
I probably wanted it to end

Someone said "I'm sad"

The coming and going of burning stars
目まぐるしいだけ is just dizzying
Even so, if it was the me from before
I would've said that it had a value
Surely

Longing creates wounds; I denied tomorrow
What awaits at the end of the journey?
What will I feel?

The darkness of despair
I should've slipped out of it many times

Under the cover of the farthest star
I'm going to search for a guitar
