Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write and perform a better, more fitting riff. This message will explode in five seconds.

It sounds like a skill building riff, like hitting quick notes and throwing quick bends and repeating it. Sounds like they were going for "punchy contrast", but yeah it's a bit too manic. I don't think it contributes very well to the main theme of the song. Which I love! The verse has that "mysterious sadness" (which I'm sure guitar people know exactly which notes to hit to get that quality) and the chorus is very warm and optimistic. It's very good, very pillows.

I don't know the top horn threw me, it seemed to me more awkward than the Ric....the one he's using seems askew and mishapen while the Ric is sexy. Just my opinion...nice to see him change it up in general though.

It looks like the Ric might have some...I don't know what it's called...contouring, on the edges - so it's not a straight, perpendicular cut. The edges on the copy are very clean looking. Also, the presence of a pickguard goes a long way in determining how a guitar strikes the eye in my opinion.

His has a pickguard, but it's painted the same red color as the body. Basically a Rickenbacker if it was designed by a Gibson fan, with the stoptail, bridge, top-mounted jack, p90's etc.

You know, for someone to have so many effect pedals, you'd think he would get bored of hearing the same tone out of his guitar all the time.

If you look at his live rig, it's basically all distortion/overdrive pedals and a modeler for the occasional vibrato/flanger/phaser effect.

Personally I like the riff, don't know what you guys are complaining about.

I won't speak for them, but I'm nuts.

Well, obviously, if the riff was included in the solo, you'd have to rewrite the entire solo in order to fit it in and make it sound good. But yeah, I just think the ear-popping of the riff would be more suitable as Manabe's entrance into his solo, as opposed to the main riff of the song. Works as is, but my analytic mind can't stay away from that. ><

I don't see anything wrong with this riff, or song. It's quirky, as I like and expect from the pillows, but it's not so over the top and forced as something more recent like Tokyo Bambi. I'm really hoping the rest of this album follows suit in going into a more... mature direction, I suppose, that we've seen from these first couple songs.

My "We Are Friends" DVD is in shipping process... Also, even though it says the first press is sold out, theres some yellow text next to it that says "*First Press Bonus."
