Re: What are you playing?
I'm playing one of my favorite games ever: Dragon Quest V. But this time I'm trying out the DS version. The 3d aspect is pretty interesting, but I must say I like the updated music most of all so far. It's such a great game, I highly recommend the SNES version at least if you don't like the DS split screen and goofy 3d aspect. You'll need to pirate it though since it was never released in America. Aeon Genesis did the translation work.

Re: What are you playing?
I like Vanille.
I thought I'd try Parappa the Rapper. Either it's extremely difficult or my emulation setup is not right for this game. I can't get past the first level. Are you using PCSXR, GoldenRhino?

The timing window IS difficult, but rhythm games are kinda my thing. I felt that it was harder when I tried to time my button presses by looking at when the Parappa icon passed over the note icon. This would usually result in late timing. Just try to copy the performance/rhythm of the song you're playing. It may take an earlier press. Try not to look at the screen so much, and just imitate the rhythm of Chop Chop Master Onion.

Re: What are you playing?
Parappa's not just hard, the timing window is off and fluctuates quite a bit iirc. But Gitaroo Man was harder because it harder because it had the same problems and was also batshit insane

The Jet Baby theme always reminds me of Blondie's "Dreaming."

Parappa is a lot of fun in that it's more involving than most games. In most games you are playing to get to the next level or reach a goal, but in this game the process is fun.

I agree! While a lot of the lyrics are dumb and the meter can be kind of sloppy (stretching out syllables), many of the songs are straight up FUN and groovy. "Kick, punch, it's all in za mind!..." and the final stage made me so damn happy. And Fleaswallow's stage! Love that guy.

Re: What are you playing?
I miss the time when rhythm games were about rhythm and music, not about 50 million particle effects blinding you in the background as you try to play (see: Beat Hazard, Bit Trip Beat, most other new rhythm games that aren't guitar hero/rock band).

That's why I stick to Konami/Bemani stuff. IIDX, Pop'n Music, DDR, Jubeat. I thought Beat Hazard was kind of a cool concept, but yeah...an eyesore?

Re: What are you playing?
DDR and Drummania are my two favorite rhythm games, followed by Ouendan and Rock Band. I would really, really like Beat Hazard if it weren't so easy to actually lose your goddamn character and crash into enemies that are covered in sparkle flares.

I really wanted to play some Technika 3 at GameWorks when I was on my break for the last few weeks, but I never got around to it! I've never played anything from that series, I think I'm missing out. Even though I'm not crazy about the format of like...touch screens and finger-dragging.

Yeah I felt the same way when I first played it, but it's surprisingly addictive. My sister just got an iPad so maybe I can borrow it for Technika and stuff.
Anyway, I just got finished with around 50% of... Katawa Shoujo. It's a visual novel created in cooperation by American and Japanese writers, mostly from 2/4chan. Just came out, it's free, if you're into this kind of thing (I didn't think I was), I recommend it.
