Re: what are you reading?
Any suggestions on where to start off?
Murakami's books are all quite good. Kafka on the Shore and After Dark are two of my favorites. I might also recommend The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, though it's much longer than most of his other works.

Re: what are you reading?
Norwegian Wood is my personal favorite Murakami novel. To me, Norwegian Wood definitely has more heart than any other novel he's written.

Re: what are you reading?
Norwegian Wood is also one of his more simpler novels. A good preparation for someone who has never read Murakami.

Re: what are you reading?
I started with Norwegian Wood, though it isn't my favorite, it got me reading other books of him. I think Kafka on the Shore is my favorite, has to do something with the cats and that guy from KFC I think. Magic realism it is called?

Hahaha the colonel was a pimp in that book!!
I am currently reading Sputnik Sweetheart. And I bought 1Q84 and it's soooo long. I'm not afraid of long novels, but excited at the complicated mess I will throw myself into once I finish SS.

The Magicians.

I started reading it. I don't really dig the writing style. A lot more telling than showing going on. It's got its interesting quirks and I haven't given up on it yet though. I just finished the chapter in which "the beast" arrives and abruptly leaves.

Re: what are you reading?
I just finished reading The Magicians. I don't really have many strong feelings one way or the other after finishing it. I want to know what happens next in the story, but I don't want to waste time reading it if it's going to become a long series.

Re: what are you reading?
Finished up Lolita after putting it aside for a while, and also just read my first Murakami novel, Kafka on the Shore. I really liked it. Gonna pick up "The Setting Sun" by Dazai and then probably read "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle"

Holy God, I love Lolita.
Kafka is my favorite book by Murakami.

But, I haven't read something as baffling as this text, since. .. since, well I don't know. We humans really lost touch with nature. I mean we are so high off the ground, if we fall it would really, really hurt. The question now is, how locked up are we? Locked up in 'the system.' Others may ask: how fucked up are we? I think it's a must-read. Although I should warn you that it may be shocking, to say the least. It left me in a state of confussion. Lol, I'm a leftist. . .
You can find the text quite easily on the internet actually. (here's a pdf version: Industrial Society and Its Future)
I want to know more about the 'power process' he mentioned in the manifesto. It's quite an interesting theory.
