You clearly don't understand overrated either. PROTIP: IF YOU LOVE A SONG, BUT IT'S NOT ONE OF YOUR TOP FAVORITES, OTHER PEOPLE HAVING IT AS ONE OF THEIR FAVORITE SONGS DOES NOT MAKE IT OVERRATED. If you DISLIKE a song, or only like it a bit, or whatever, while most others love the shit out of it, then yeah, maybe you could say you felt it was overrated. A good example would be GR's post about Kono Yo no Hate Made, a song that to him is actually somewhat boring for the most part. If you say "DON'T GET ME WRONG I LOVE THIS SONG" and then go on to claim it's overrated for a reason as retarded as it being a general favorite, you're doing it wrong.

Also, a music video has nothing to do with a song being overrated.

Frankly I can't find room to disagree. Doesn't mean I don't love Swakny (sic) Street either.

Being serious though, I really don't consider much "overrated". They've put together a really diverse discography over the years with a lot of great material, so it's only natural that different people gravitate towards different sorts of songs as their favorites.

So I think that's also kinda causing problems with the "I really like this song, but think it's overrated" shtick. Because honestly, a lot of us can prolly say we really like 75-90% of their entire goddamn discography - and if there's a song that's a perenial Top 10 among people that's not too high up on your own list, you can then pretty much define it as "overrated".

Like a personal example for me would probably also be Kono Yo Hate Made. Is it in some people's Top 5-10? Yes. Is it even in my Top 50? I don't think so. Do I think it's overrated? No, I can't really say that, there are just other songs that I personally enjoy more. Are there 4-5 songs from Smile that I might rather see them play live instead? Probably. Would I still enjoy seeing Kono Yo Hate Made live? Yes I would.

Really, if you want to be that technical about what overrated means, then NONE of the pillows' songs will EVER be overrated, because most people have NEVER heard of the pillows in the first place. But in this small group that is totally obsessed with the band, I've noticed an inordinate amount of people give an inordinate amount of praise to the songs I listed. Sort of what overrated means...

The size of the group doesn't really matter, as long as there are enough people to distribute throughout the discography to the point that people start to view certain songs as overrated. And there certainly are enough consistent members of this forum for such a position to develop. After all, we've pretty much discussed the hell out of every single album the pillows have ever released, so we all know where the general consensus lies on individual songs. That's enough to warrant this thread as a topic of discussion.

Now, as to the quality of the discussion, that's up to you to decide. I suggest you look at the positive side of things. With so many people having different preferences for "favorite" pillows songs, it only promotes the notion that this band is very awesome and able to reach a wide dynamic of people with a long and impressive (lol to a point) discography.

I was listening to the pillows the other day and realized that a lot of their' FLCL' era songs are highly overrated. ROSS? CRAZY SUNSHINE? FUNNY BUNNY?
Ugh.

Funny bunny has been redone at least 3 times and has it's own PV now.
What about the songs prior to FLCL ? Those are good. So underrated.

I was meaning within only the bounds of pillows fans. In which case, the number of people who even know what Swanky Street is would be less than half, I'm sure, so the only way those songs could be considered overrated is perhaps within the context of this community. I think that it's silly to say "that's your favorite song, you love it the most, therefore it's overrated because I think you like it more than it's worth liking" is silly when you admit it's a really great song without any real flaws. I mean, hey, sure, technically "overrated" to your tastes in that you don't think it's one of the best, but it's just a ridiculous thing to talk about. Mention songs you actually dislike that others fellate all the time, and it'd make a whole lot more sense. I know it's all personal opinion, blah blah, etc, but it's just silly to say "WHY YES, I TOO LOVE THAT SONG, BUT WOULD NOT PUT IT IN MY TOP 10, THUS IT'S OVERERATED." You can't think of other songs that actually deserve to be called overrated more according to your own tastes?

Basically, this thread is retarded, and everybody is operating off of hugely varying connotations of "overrated," in addition to it all just being personal taste to start with.
