more would be greatly appreciated, if you can.
I'll do what I can, but I'm a little inhibited from emailing him right now- have you seen their concert schedule?
I may start bugging Jun and Miura-san for stuff like this. They don't seem too worried about just replying in Japanese and letting me sort it out, whereas Manabe replies in English and obviously takes some time to get the translation perfect. It's just too much to ask. Eventually, though, I'm going to try to get him to post the lyrics on the Nine Miles website. I mean, that makes more sense.
Jeez, I'm talking like I really know these people, when in fact I'm barely an acquaintance. They've been very kind to me, but I suspect that's just how they are with everyone.
(*sigh*) It's been nice, though.....

Reading this thread made me give nine miles another listen. I've started to really like it, which is strange since I remember hating it at some point. Either i'm highly suggestible or Manabe's robot-voice hypnotized me.

I didn't like it at first either. But really good music is that way sometimes- you have to learn it first.
I think reggae may be especially like that, because you have to anticipate it. All the Nine Miles stuff sounded the same at first, except for Word of Mouth. Then gradually, like a garden, the songs started "blooming" one by one......
I've listened to both albums probably 30 times and I'm STILL finding new stuff.
One thing is really important: use good headphones. There's too much stuff layered in there to hear over speakers. You lose about 3/4ths of it through speakers.
Although I like his music, I have to admit that a lot of the instruments sound like they're from a cheap Casio keyboard or something. Maybe that makes it cooler.
I've been trying to analyze some of the mixing, and I get the impression that he's doing graphic manipulation of wavefiles. Like in Third Eye, where there's an interlude, and he blends a sound effect with a vocal: I think that's done by cutting and pasting wave shapes together. That's probably why it sounds so "Casio"....
I don't know, but he's a technical type, near as I can tell, and easily the most compute literate of the group.
Does anyone know what he majored in in college?

Good call. It sounds a lot better on my headphones at home than on the little low-end ones I use at school.

Yeah. And if you have any control of the equalization, dick with that, too. I use a cheap little Durabrand CD player with Sony ANC headphones, and there's an equalization button on the player that cycles you through "normal", "rock", "dbb", "jazz", "classical", and "pop". If you're trying to dig out one instrument or the vocals, checking all those various equalization options sometimes lets you find one that really enhances what you're trying to hear.

Back then i was listening to Nine Miles's Return of The Polar Bear preview song. I can't remember the song title. But i sured hated! Then decided to listen to another Nine Miles Album it was SOLOMONIC POLAR BEAR's Division Three it sounded ok. But i was'nt in to it. A alot months back decided to listen to Nine Miles Albums again 1 song from each album. So the song that i hated before it actually sounds ok. Then i listen to Division Three again and this time i loved it! It was really easy listening song. And then i thought that manabe's side project wasn't bad at all. So i listen to the Return of The Polar Bear album. I really like everysong from that album now. My favorite songs from that album are Scarlet Emotion, Word of Mouth and Return of The Polar Bear (Reprise). Now i'm going to listen to SOLOMONIC POLAR BEAR Soon i hope.

Yeah me too that's my almost favorite album from Ninie Miles. There five favorite songs that i like from that album Priority In The Life, A Perfect Circle, Freeze contact, Division Three (Mostly Overall my favorite song ) and Cause of joy. I was disapointed in Good Luck System Debora (Introduction). It was way too short to be a favorite. But i still like it . Overall the album i really like it. But still i like listening to both albums. If i have too choose 1 i will pick Solomonic Polar Bear. But if you have enough money get both of them if you have to. They're both great albums . I don't want to think as Solomonic polar Bear is relaxing all the time. I think all the songs are a hip from solomonic polar bear as well. Like Division Three very hip . Even though i listen to the album while i drink my soup sometimes . But i still bop my head a little while listening to the album.

YES!
The only sad thing about this thread is that you can see the semi-harmonious times that used to be IM back in 2005 =\. Then you remember all the gay towar cock and spam and useless shit they pull.
Oh well, Nine Miles rocks, and I noted to myself last week when Division Three came on my playlist that I should've downloaded both albums a long time ago, but I hadn't . I'll remedy that.

I really wanted to ask him that at the live in Kyoto, but never got a chance, when they came out at the end they rushed into their van and i barely got a chance to yell out "Please come back to America!" lol. D:
