Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine

There's some videos on VictorMusicChannel from youtube about Time Machine... Here's the one I watched a bit of, found it youtubing the pillows... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMpOA8JrK5A
WOW! That sounds horrible, reminds me of when I was working at a guitar center, dissonance. A lot of those guys don't seem to play very good. Manabe almost seems to avoid playing.
There's like 4-5 of those videos too I think lol...

That's what happens when you get 9 guitarists together. Atleast throw an acoustic or a 12 string in there, something.

I don't think it sounds all that bad, honestly.
What I find hilarious is the video itself. "LOL, LOOK AT US. WE'RE SUCH COOL LEGENDARY GUITARISTS, PLAYING AT THE DINNER TABLE. WE WERE ALL JUST EATING AND THIS IMPROMPTU JAM SESSION JUST KIND OF STARTED." And yeah, Manabe seems to be holding back.

If you could rip it lossless, .wav or .flac I would really appreciate it, thanks.

There's something about instrumental rock which strikes me as...very porn-music. Seriously, I can imagine some slobby dude giving a woman some devious anal to most of these tracks.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
I don't know what it is about it. I'm being honest here, not trying to insult anyone's music taste or anything like that. There's just something about *electric* guitar virtuosity in this sort of style which strikes me as a little "wanky." Maybe it's the guitar tone. Maybe it's the basslines?
It's weird for me too, because as someone who listens to a number of different musical genres, I can appreciate the power of many different instruments and styles to stir up real emotions. I just rarely if ever perceive instrumental guitar rock as being "authentic" or...no, "not artificial."
I'm fine with Explosions in the Sky though, despite them being a little formulaic. STEP ON DELAY PEDAL, PROFIT.
Can anyone tell me what I'm getting at here? I want to know "it" is that makes me perceive music like this as expendable, background, and a little low-brow. Again, no offense at all meant to the musicians/composers/enthusiasts.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
Well, let's take Manabe's piece for instance. The over-processed drums and that synthesized ringing noise (is that a triangle or some shit?) make this sound as though it belongs on the soundtrack for some righteous porno, or perhaps a film about young people playing basketball in the inner city and learning valuable lessons about friendship. The whole thing's a fucking cheesefest. That isn't to say that his playing isn't good; it's just that the entire thing is generic and over-produced. This is the kind of negligible background music that I could see appearing in, say, a Yu-Gi-Oh film.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
I thought for the most part the whole thing was, like you guys said, rather over processed. But I really like time goes on you for its sort of bluesy crunch and REBORN was like something out of topgun (and by that I mean in the best way). Same with mon e dora. The rest I found a little unimpressive and just kinda weird.

Re: [2011.09.07] Manabe side project - Time Machine
Timeline wins hands fucking down. Purple Night Love Affair is great too. Yeah, the accompaniment on Beautiful Struggle let's him down quite a bit. It's a shame because there is a lot to like in his playing. eh, a few stinkers on here, but what else is new. Stutter Caster is an assault on the ears, like it feels like an anxiety attack in musical form. It makes me feel uncomfortable and fearful. If that's what was intended then bravo CHOKKAKU. Track 8 is pretty repetitive. Click anywhere in that song. I think mon a dora is confused about what kind of song it wants to be. I haven't given the rest a proper listen yet so no comment. On the whole, I think most of the songs are lengthier than they deserve.
