Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone is forgetting how awesome 1989 (the song) was?

Dude, 1989 wasn't a single. But yes, it was awesome. And Movement was really good work too.

Wasn't feeling it. Had energy but wasn't catchy enough.

"1989" was great. It felt prolonged - like it was missing something. But it was still one of their best recent offerings.

I don't understand what the 'message' is supposed to be. That 1989 was a good song? Okay, it was. And there's been other good songs since then. By that logic, I can do it too.

Maybe of the recent "great" songs, 1989 is his favorite, and so he used it as opposed to anything more recent. There are probably a lot of people who put 1989 higher than more recent material (the singles and really good songs, even).

It has less to do with a specific song, and more with a recent song he considers "great". Great enough that we should have more faith in the pillows' future output.

1989 came out two years ago, using that song when they've released a mountain of other material since then defeats the point. If you said "have faith, Horn Again was pretty good" then okay, that was the last album they released. That makes for a good example of what kind of music they're making right now.

Unless the 'message' is that the pillows haven't had a good song since 1989 came out two years ago, in which case I disagree.

I'm not so sure it defeats the point. the pillows release a lot of material, yes, but it's only pop music. I don't think using a song from two years ago is irrelevant when judging a band's current potential. Especially not the pillows, who've been together for 21 long years and release like no one's business.

It'd be stronger to say "Hey, Movement was really good." But if we're going by songs that are truly great, then yeah, I'd say 1989 is a good charge. I agree with him that it's really good (more so than a lot of Ooparts and Horn Again). And that's what I've been expecting from the pillows, a couple of really great songs every year or so.

I think if you compare anime, these songs match the anime's they're used for.

FLCL and ROSS = BLAWSOME

Whatever japanese highschool comedy drama and Comic Sonic = MEh.
