Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Halfway through Gunslinger Girl (saw it at wal-mart for ten bucks and I was like hey, why not? lol, it's not bad) and also Wandering Son is up to episode 4 on crunchyroll. It's pretty good... The kids seem a bit too mature at times with regards to the main issue of the story (transexualism and gender identity), but then again it looks like it's only 11 episodes. I guess it's expected to cram a lot of pathos into it. For something as complex as the subject matter they sure understand a lot, and learn quickly, but I haven't read the manga so I'm kinda dropped in the middle of a story in progress. Saori makes me laugh though, so full of quiet rage. Girl needs a kickboxing class.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Just finished the fourth episode of Fractale. Holy shit, this show is amazing. I'm hoping the rest of the series turns out as good as it is right now. Also, I was surprised when the ending was in (understandable) English and even more surprised when it was a song based off of a William Butler Yeats poem.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I've gotta say. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood far exceeded the first anime adaptation, for me. Though I liked the origins of the humonculous in the first series more than in the second.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
I finished Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I wasn't too impressed with the original movie, but the series was really worth watching. I'd have liked it better if there were less Stand Alone episodes. Even though they were important for history background and character development, some of them just felt forced and completely unnecessary. The Complex episodes were brilliant, but the ending was very anti-climatic. Overall, I'd give it a 8/10 rating. Already started watching the 2nd GIG.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Anyone heard of Sket Dance?? Cause I haven't, and apparently the pillows will provide the ending theme: http://natalie.mu/music/news/46013*Understand that I can't read Japanese and therefore have only the vaguest idea what that says*

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Today I watched Five Centimeters Per Second. It's easily one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen and I highly recommend it.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
But.. it has such a typical Japanese plot. I seriously think it is nothing more than eye candy. If you want to watch a really fantastic anime movie, watch The Sky Crawlers.

Says you. Truth be told, 5 Centimeters per Second is sublime. And I checked The Sky Crawlers. Not very inspiring ratings from both MyAnimeList and IMDb. I think I'll pass.
Anyway, I watched The Place Promised in Our Early Days the other day. What can I say? Fantastic piece of work. The imagery and animation were staggering, and the narrative was very moving and beautifully crafted. It kept me hooked throughout the entire film. Makoto Shinkai really is a gifted genius.

I thought it was spectacular, though it is hard to choose whether I preferred that film or 5 Centimeters Per Second.
I also just watched Ocean Waves. I thought it was a nice, light film, as is the case with most Ghibli stuff.

Re: Anime (other than FLCL)
Every time I hear about 5 Centimeters per Second, I think of a B-horror movie about pregnancy and child birth.

With a killer fetus that crawls at five centimeters per second?

I feel the same. Really difficult to choose between them.
