Angles - The Strokes new album
I don't if this band matches this board users' taste and to be honest I think The Strokes is a somewhat overrated band, but still, I quite like them. And so apparently they're releasing a new album which will be out on March 21, after an almost 5 years extensive break. So they dropped a song off the new album on their website. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwxcQvB_vcQCatchy tune, imho.

Re: Angles - The Strokes new album
I've been a long time fan and can say they are a little overrated, still they are a great band none the less. I saw them play live in 2010 at OutsideLands and it was amazing. I was hoping the new album will stay true to their unique sound but from what I've heard out of Under cover of the Darkness, I didn't think it was all that great. It was catchy for a short minute then I found myself not remembering any of it other than the intro. I've listened over and over again and it never quite sticks with me. Hope the rest of the album isn't as mediocre. The song reminded me of Primer beat for some reason. Similar drum pattern I guess.

Re: Angles - The Strokes new album
Not overrated IMO, but this single is pretty good. It's a little different for them, so I'm not loving it as much as I loved their first two albums, but it's solid nonetheless, and I have high hopes for this album.

I didn't like First Impressions of Earth as much as their previous stuff, but I think I like this.

Re: Angles - The Strokes new album
Ditto that.
The first two albums are like the Godfather 1 and 2 and, while the third wasn't bad, it can't compare to the first two.

I've never watched The Godfather movies, but from what I've heard it isn't exactly a mostly mundane trilogy with a few good scenes that are hardly memorable.

Re: Angles - The Strokes new album
I've known about The Strokes for years, but this new single has really gotten me into them. Absolutely love it. Went back to the rest of their discography too. Is it just me, or does anyone else notice some similarities to their sound and the pillows' sound? Songs like "Someday" and especially "Take It Or Leave It" sound like something Sawao could've written. Maybe it's just the kind of distortion being used, but I can really hear some similarities between the two, which I love. They both make some quirky, awesome music.

The solo is hot and there are interesting guitar and vocal melodies. @Son Goshin Someday's chorus is similar to the prechorus of I Know You.

Re: Angles - The Strokes new album
In all honesty, there was 30sec preview leak for each song and all of it was fucking garbage. I'm so depressed to find one of my favorite bands dropped to a level I will not stand for. I might be wrong and find that the songs might get better as it progresses but I really don't think it will. Under cover of darkness is the best on the album and even that song isn't great. Its just good.

Re: Angles - The Strokes new album
So I've listened to a leaked copy of the album a few times now, and I have to say that it's pretty boner-inducing. It sounds different from anything else they've put out so far, but I'm really digging most of the tracks so far. More than any other recent release, this album reminds me of Kimonos. It's rock, but it's highly experimental and takes a lot from 80s new wave.
Two Kinds of Happiness is probably my favorite.

Are we listening to the same album? Obviously not, since you only listened to the previews. This album is awesome, not as good as Is This It obviously, but there's some damn good songs on here. UCOD is one of their best songs... period. Love love love it. Life is Simple in the Moonlight is also a beautiful song. Macchu Picchu, one of the best openers ever. Gratisfaction, that's exactly what I want to hear from The Strokes. Not really feeling a couple tracks like Games and You're So Right yet, but I think this album may grow on me. I'm tired of seeing all the haters around the web. While I can understand it's not at the same level as their first two albums, there's still some awesome material on this record.
