Tron
Saw the midnight premiere on Thursday night (er, technically, Friday morning I guess?). The visuals were amazing, and the premise was, conceptually, pretty interesting.* Honestly, though, I wasn't very satisfied with the film itself. Aside from the plot being rather cliched and undeveloped, a lot of the links between the premise and what was actually going on in the movie were either missing or very unclear.
Plenty of nice little nerd references, though (including a direct quote from WarGames). And Daft Punk's score was awesome—turned out to be a lot more orchestral than I expected.
* - I was vaguely familiar with the idea of the original Tron, but I hadn't (and still haven't) actually seen it yet.

Re: Tron
It was cool to look at, at least.

Re: Tron
Looks fun. Might go see it when it lands in the dollar theater.

Re: Tron
Hmm, it's not getting good reviews, but I wasn't really expecting it to be that great anyway. I'll probably still go see it.

Re: Tron
I saw it today. It was actually really enjoyable. I think a lot of the critics are being way to hard on this movie.
Olive Wilde is a cutie. Too bad her hair's not really black. Life's full of disappointments and all that.

Re: Tron
I loved this movie, but I went into expecting a typical adventure plot. The music, visuals, and Jeff Bridges made this movie what it is. I was also glad that they didn't really sacrifice the legacy of the first film to make this one. Kudos to Disney. I hope we see more.

Re: Tron
Saw it today. It was about what I expected. All sugar, very little substance. Somehow I managed to turn my brain off so that the pseudo science didn't make me want to cry.

Re: Tron
am I the only one that noticed that both trons were commentary on people's attitude towards technology and the internet? Maybe I'm just imagining things but it seemed like when the first one came out people were new to computer technology and it seemed infinite and infallible and now the new one comes out in a time where technology has started to consume people's lives and the morals of each movie seem really relevant at the time each was conceived.
I personally loved Tron Legacy because of that fact. I was talking with my girl about how the cloak of anonymity and social networking sites insulate people's personalities and has made a lot of people more detached from others. The moral of the movie seemed really relevant to the times considering we're first generation who's had to deal with internet addiction. A lot of characters and events could be easily referenced to aspects of how people have dealt with the growth of technology.
even if all that wasn't intended in the writing of the movie, I like it cuz it made me think about that stuff.

Re: Tron
I saw it thursday night on it's last night of showing. Only one in the audience. YES, YOU WILL RUN THIS FILM, FOR I HAVE PURCHASED A TICKET. All the reasoning for the isos was briefly and vaguely explained in that one scene right in the middle, then the movie just took off and dashed towards the climax. Flow-wise as a family visual action film, I think it's ok that way, but substance-wise they should have pushed for a stronger message/better explanation since, you know, the isos coming to exist is pretty much the central catalyst for the villians actions. All I got from it was "the iso are like humans, where did they come from? This world created them somehow, what a miracle that it coincides with the mysteries of our origins out in the natural world." So... It looked like they wanted to incite creation vs. evolution but not really extrapolate much in either direction, but instead focus mostly on the father-son relationship to make it "family-friendly". Why bother? I liked the idea of the isos, but it seemed like nobody in the film had any useful insight about them and they were all like "oh fuck let's get out of here!" the whole time. The movie was alright but the meat of the story seemed undercooked, perhaps intentionally. Unless I missed something.
