Re: Zazen Boys
Whatcha talkin' 'bout? Mukai's got one of the best screams in indie rock!
I really like their more electronic-esque songs like Asobi and The Drifting, which is a little surprising even to me considering that I don't really care for electronic music. Personally I thought 4 was a great album and I'm looking forward to whatever they're up to. I do miss the yearly live albums, though.

Re: Zazen Boys
ZB4 is a little on the weird side. It seems like Mukai doesn't incorporate his guitar playing very much anymore. ZBII is my favorite album by them because, while you have Mukai's NG-esque guitar style, it is still unmistakingly ZB in every way. I miss that. At least ZB4 has a strong start with Asobi and Honnoji before it gets into the weird stuff.

Sorry dude, didn't have enough cash to buy a shirt; they were the "delay man" ones screened in white instead of pink like I already have. Also, I was hoping he was going to be selling the Kimonos' single but wasn't last night. They did play Sekarasika though, here's some pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/xtsquintx/ ... 156161772/

Too bad about the Kimonos single - the album is about to be great eh? Almost Human is a killer track. Good to hear about Sekarasika. Though isn't it better in Japan when you can "U! RU! SA! I!" GATTA GATTA GATTA GATTA!

Re: Zazen Boys
Nice photos. I lol'd at the one of Mukai with the PBR - TOTAL HIPSTER!
Also, I'm glad Yoshikane's still wearing that cool shirt.

Re: Zazen Boys
I looked up some of the music made by Leo Imai, the singer from Mukai's new side project Kimonos.

Pretty good stuff. A bit poppy, but very catchy. His voice kinda reminds me a bit of Beck, but I'm not sure why.

Re: Zazen Boys
That synth sounds damn tasty, but other than that it sounds like standard Zazen-fare, maybe with a bit of Leo Imai influence on the pronunciation of the drawn-out syllables, lol. I mean, Mukai already does that somewhat, but something about the enunciation reminds me of Imai's almost-spoken lyrics.
We'll see what the new album brings, I guess. I'm hoping for some more sexy smooth tracks with good synth and not JUST jumpy stuttery funk rock.

Re: Zazen Boys
The new album is out, and it's very good. Short, aggressive, guitar-based songs, not much synth. The only real problem is that Mukai's vocals seem less distinct - there's not much 'rapping' or wild screaming, but he doesn't do a whole lot of real singing either (though it sounds nice when he does.)

Bold indicates what I liked, too. There's some wank-esque experimentation, but the short, punchy nature of the songs saves them from being overly-indulgent. I kinda like the synth, though, so I wish there were more. /sadface.jpg
Weird album, but it works overall. Mmmm, kioku.

Re: Zazen Boys
It's everything a Zazen Boys album should be. I dig it a lot. Though the bonus track isn't much of a bonus.
