Re: what are you reading?
Just got reading, Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It was interested. I didn't like that they make something known as perfection. Or trying to achieve it. It was interesting overall. I will be reading some other book next. Don't know the name of it at the moment. But i has it

Re: what are you reading?
I finished Murakami's Underground, the English version of his non-fiction book about the sarin gas attacks on the Tokyo subway. Pretty interesting stuff.

Re: what are you reading?
Just read The Namesake and Unaccustomed Earth, both by Jhumpa Lahiri. One is a novel about a Bengali family and the immigrant experience in the US, and the other is some short stories... also about Bengali families and the immigrant experience. Pretty interesting, but it definitely feels like the author only has one type of story to tell. Some of the short stories also felt a bit pointless.

Re: what are you reading?
Yukio Mishima is great. I haven't read that one, but Kinkakuji is absolutely fantastic and The Sound of Waves is a less complex but very well-told story.

I've had a few experiences with Mishima (Patriotism, The Sound of Waves, and an excerpt from Confessions of a Mask), and one experience with Murakami (A Wild Sheep Chase).
I enjoyed what I liked of both, but Mishima has this certain style...very articulate and detailed. Maybe a little "dry," but in a good way. We'll see where this takes me, I'm enjoying it a lot. I think Murakami was a little too surreal for me.

Yea its super drawn out and a bit disjointed given its multitudes of side stories but it's really fantastic. Have you checked out his other novels? I'm still diggin Norwegian Wood a lot.

Re: what are you reading?
Let us not forget that Mishima was a rightist okama who became an hero.
I'm pretty much out of Murakami to read. I finished his memoir of sorts, What I Talk About When I Talk About Running, the other day. I recommend it to Murakami fans and runners (maybe writers), I guess.
But I also read Richard Brautigan's Dreaming of Babylon and fucking loved it. Now I'm in the mood for some straight up hard-boiled detective stuff, so I might look into some Raymond Chandler.

Check out Motherless Brooklyn for more detective fun. I'm in the middle of it but it's engrossing so far.
