Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
I don't really see the point in bellyaching over what they're gonna play, its not like we here in the states have seen them live soooooo much that playing the FLCL fare has gotten old. On top of that, the new stuff would be pretty awesome live. Especially considering FLCL stuff all comes from really awesome albums. If they whipped out Kool Spice stuff most people at their show would be like whereas the two or three im'ers would take a break from clutching their fanny pack and looking annoyed at the people rocking out and nerdgasm.

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
Ameagari could be pretty good live despite my interest level in the recorded version, but if they play anything from ooparts that isn't primer beat/ameagari/and MAYBE beyond the moon, it's likely to be underwhelming. Your Order is a likely play and will probably be a good example of this. As much as I feel there are some merits to be found in songs from ooparts, there isn't much potential insofar these songs being performed live. We've seen Lemon Drops, it pretty much sounds like Lemon Drops. Nothing to get too excited about. Johnny Strobe will leave you wanting more just like the recording, as it is filler territory on par with Air Resister. Rodeo Star Mate is going to sound damn near exactly the same as the recording. etc, etc. It is an album with a high number of simply average tunes which aren't going to magically become AMAZING or even great simply because the pillows are playing them live. Clunkers like Life Size Life and Foxes would go right in the "why are they playing this" category like Voice and Serious Plan. I don't want 1/4 or more of my time at a pillows concert to be spent listening to songs that are "just ok". So yeah, I hope things go well with the setlist suggestions. *cough, ROBOTMAN, GOOD MORNING GOOD NEWS, WHITE ASH, cough* Probably going to the inevitable NYC show, I have some decent money saved. If I go, it's definitely pillows + explore NYC instead of just going there for a show and heading back. I'd like to see the Museum of Modern Art and sample delicious foods.

I agree with most of this. I think it's a given we'll see at least 3 or 4 OOPARTS songs, and I'm fine with that. They want to push the newer material. It's the rest of the setlist that matters. Yea, the FLCL stuff comes from their best albums, but at the same time then that would mean we wouldn't hear Kim Deal, Nowhere, No Self Control... and they've played all those songs fairly recently. Hell, they played Kim Deal only 2 or 3 weeks ago according to that setlist on Facebook. I just want balance, really.

Bought my ticket for Slim's. Still gotta buy a plane ticket and make hotel reservations, but it looks like I'm going. On a completely unrelated note I'm selling some guitar stuff.... /needs money]
On the other hand though, I'd imagine Avex is especially happy people like the newer stuff, I mean they DID release the last few albums...
Yeah, that. Promotionally, I don't think there's much in it for Avex to be putting forward their older albums, since the sales that Avex sees a piece of are their newer ones.
I'd probably place my money on.... Dance With God, Your Order, hopefully Ameagari, and either Melody or Lemon Drops being the OOPARTS selections.

Not looking too good for me . If there isn't a show in the Southeast it looks like I won't be seeing the pillows (unless I decide to splurge my way to Chicago if they play there).

Every time I look at this thread and don't see a new tour date, I die a little inside.

Re: the pillows 2010 US Tour!!!
can't wait to see them in NYC after getting screwed in Boston (room was full my ass, people were walking out during the openers).
what I hope the set list will be like:
another morning wake up, dodo! instant music after the rain my foot pied piper ladybird girl good dreams rodeo star mate gazelle city thank you my twilight lemon drops please mr. lostman hybrid rainbow
encore: little busters
something like a mix of old and new, and enough of the better FLCL stuff to keep the fans who've only heard those songs happy

Lunch with IM will not be the same without Grey. But I will definitely be up for it. Contact me before we plan for my cell number. Also, any updates on an NYC show?
