Re: Ging Nang Boyz
New single Pink Rotor is on sale at the GNB web site as of May 7th. Then I believe it will be available on iTunes after the 13th.

Re: Ging Nang Boyz
GNB are one of the most disappointing bands in my library. They put out two good albums and some killer singles, but have been in a downward spiral since Juunana Sai: content to become shamelessly commercial in addition to Mineta prioritizing his acting career over ever releasing another album. I hardly care what they do anymore. Oh, and I'm sick of the horrible-sounding brickwall production, too.

Re: Ging Nang Boyz
Since when are you one to care about a band being commercial? And how have they done this? By creating the soundtrack to a play rather than focusing on a new album that would be a sure-fire seller? I guess you'd like them better if they cranked out the same album every year like a certain band we all know so well?
It's pretty stupid to do a 180 about a band when they haven't even put anything new out. Like, really, you just now have a problem with their production? Apparently Skool Kill and Nippon Hakkyou didn't clue you in.

Re: Ging Nang Boyz
I think so. Boys on the Run is great, Pink Rotor is a lot better than I gave it credit for immediately after its release, and it and Sex City were made specifically for a play. So I don't see any basis for the accusation of being "shamelessly commercial." Was that about Mineta's small supporting roles in a couple films? Go see Shounen Merikensakku and tell me it wasn't great.
And it's not like his acting is a new thing. Iden&Tity came out before Ging Nang Boyz formed, and his role in that was much larger than most of his recent roles. I'm calling indie hipster bullshit on this one, friendo.

Re: Ging Nang Boyz
That reminded me of a great hipster joke:
How many hipsters does it take to screw in a light bulb?
It's a really big number; you've probably never heard of it.

Re: Ging Nang Boyz
Call me a hipster, but I loved Pink Rotor and didn't really care for Boys on the Run.

Re: Ging Nang Boyz
I still DO like GNB's music, at least up to the last few releases. It's just that I'm endlessly frustrated by what I feel is a capable band sitting around on their bums instead of ever putting out another album. Any time I take a peek at their site or blog or whatever, I get the vibes of a band that just doesn't care anymore. If they ever DID release another actual album I'm sure I'd check it out, but I see little point in actively anticipating it. And yes, I do think making the soundtrack to a play is a rather dumb for a punk band. Of course I don't own the band so they can do whatever they want, but I have no reason to keep caring under the above-mentioned circumstances.
The production has always bothered me, but I didn't know why until recently when I learned about the whole loudness war thing. Yeah, it fits the mood of the really chaotic punk songs but hurts a lot of the more melodic tunes, like the second half of Door, and more importantly, it hurts my hears listening to brickwalled, distorted production for more than five minutes. And Hikari suffers the most - it's a phenomenal song hurt by the horrible compression that takes all the punch out of the song's aggressive climax. Going Steady's albums had great production with good dynamics, I wish they'd go back to doing it that way.
I really liked the first few singles, but Juunana Sai barely kept my attention (I liked that little keyboard solo part), and the ones they've released since then have been totally forgettable for me.
And as we've come to expect, GNB hit another one out of the park. The part where the guitar and drums come in is just amazing, in fact I think this has some of the most noticeable drumming I've ever heard from Murai. And how can you not love the squawking organ solo?!
Two quotes about the same song. ThinlineTele, ladies and gentlemen.
But really, I'm as frustrated as anyone by their lack of an album release. It's just that your new, sudden criticisms of the band are out of left field and mostly unwarranted.
And I still like their production, but what do I know?
