Post Re: Weezer
Aside from Perfect Situation, I didn't like anything from Make Believe. Red Album had a few okay songs, but overall, the lyrics in that album just irked me. YEAH WE'RE REBELLING WITH OUR PORK AND BEANZ BRAH CAUSE WE'RE STILL HIP EVEN AS WE GET OLDER, DAWG. From what I can tell from Raditude's songs is that they're kind of going back to having good lyrics, but fucking it over with shit like Love is the Answer. You're not the God damned Beatles. I heard I Want You To on the radio a month or so ago and was like "Wow, I wonder what new band this is. Sounds pretty good. Reminds me of Weezer." Ended up being Weezer. Musically, it doesn't sound like them, but lyrically it fits, and I like it. I also enjoyed Trippin' Down the Freeway and The Prettiest Girl in the Whole Wide World. It seems that now the Weezer formula is to make okay songs, a really bad song or two, then a good song or two.

Also, am I the only one that actually really dug Maladroit? Green Album was actually pretty good in my book, too, but out of the first four albums, I'd say Green was the weakest. However, Maladroit had some awesome songs. Especially Burnt Jamb. For me, it's Blue Album > Pinkerton is greater than or equal to Maladroit > Green >> Red >>> The rest.

There's some good stuff on Make Believe besides PS. But Pork and Beans isn't really about rebelling, you have to udnerstand the context in which it was written. See, the entire album was finished at the end of 2007, but the label didn't think there was anything "single-worthy". So they made Rivers and the gang go back to the studio for one more session, and that's where he wrote Pork and Beans and Troublemaker. So it's pretty much accepted that Pork and Beans is a big F YOU to the record label. You look at lyrics like, "Timbaland knows the way to reach the top of the charts/ Maybe if I work with him I can perfect the art", as well as pretty much the whole chorus, and you can tell it's all tounge in cheek.

The only thing that scares me, is that somewhere between then and now, Rivers started taking that line seriously, and that's why we have him collaborating with a bunch of shit pop producers. It's like he doesn't believe in his own ability to write a song, yet like I said, the best sogns on Raditude are the ones he wrote himself! Most of Raditude is just horrible. The lyrics for the most part suck, like how does a 40 year old come up with some of this stuff. And yea, I think Maladroit gets shit on too much. There's good stuff on there, nothing wrong with rocking out a little bit.

I've had the story behind Pork and Beans explained to me a thousand times before, either way, it's still got some lame lyrics, in my opinion. It reminds me of shit like the Rich and the Famous by Good Charlotte. OH HURR DURR LIFESTYLES OF THE RICH AND THE FAMOUS EVEN THOUGH WE'RE RICH AND FAMOUS and Weezer's like OH LOOK AT US REBEL AGAINST MAKING POPPY RADIO-FRIENDLY SONGS EVEN THOUGH MOST OF OUR SONGS ARE POPPY RADIO-FRIENDLY SONGS.

I really don't see how it can be comapred to Good Charlotte. It doesn't have anything to do about rebelling against pop radio. Crap, you practically said it yourself, Cuomo embraces it. The man considers Miley Cyrus to be one of his favorite artists right now. He's just saying, "OK, so you execs want a quick 3 minute pop/rock song? All right, boom, there. Happy now? Get off my case." And Pork and Beans worked, it was a mild hit, got back to that Weezer crunch, and was some good pop. It's just a fun song all and all, and I personally don't think the lyrics are that bad just because he decided to take a jab at Geffen.

I realized I've heard most of the songs from Blue Album without ever formally listening to it. (my name is jonas, buddy holly, undone-sweater song, surf wax america, say it ain't so, holiday) Blue is pretty tight.

Well, I'm not totally hating Raditude... (Listening right now) I really liked Tripping down the freeway and Let it all hang out. Don't want to let you go is nice. Apart from the songs I don't like, it sounds agreeable, at least. Some of the songs are rather samey, though. :/

For the really bad, Put me back together made me go :eh: when he rhymed daydream with ice cream... yeah that song didn't pan out. :dizzy: Can't stop partying... undercooked to say the least.

Prettiest Girl and Run over by a truck are great! Why aren't they on the regular edition? :?

Feels like an even mix of lame, ok, and good songs. overall kinda average. It wasn't offensively bad but it seems that a good portion of the songs didn't live up to their potential. I've only heard it once though, my opinion on some songs could improve a bit.

Now go and listen to The Blue Album and Pinkerton and compare them with Raditude.

So you pretty much named the best songs on the album. And you loved Trippin' Down The Freeway and Prettiest Girl. I have a feeling your going to love Blue and Pinkerton, those are the two that sound the most like "classic" Weezer to me.

I haven't gotten a chance to listen to the new album but I dig, I want you to. It's got a kinda oldschool pop band vibe.

imo there will never be another album to the caliber of the blue album because the blue album could be almost brutally introverted milling over their problems growing up and relationship problems, and now things aren't so bad for them. At least they're not trying to force it, their music sounds like their life.

I hate Weezer. They are not good, they never were good, and will never be good.

And if you really think an album called "Raditude" with a flying dog on the cover is going to be good, you're living in bogusland. I suggest Supercar's Three Out Change if you want some good power pop.
