I missed out on seeing them the last time they were in town, and I was thinking of going this time 'round. they will be in town in october. They have some kickass songs IMO.

I'm not getting into their new sound right now, I liked their new single to a point, I wish they kept their sound from the first album!

 Re: arctic monkeys
I havent heard anything from their last album, unless it was d is for dangerous or whatever it's called. Are they on their 3rd album? I too was a fan of the sound in the first album, especially that of Mardy Bum. Love that song, among others on the same album. You have me worried now that if I buy tickets and they play stuff from their new cd that I wont enjoy it as much.

 Re: arctic monkeys
No no no, don't worry. They still play a lot of their good stuff. I was talking about their new single.. What was it called.. It was something Lightning. haha I forgot already. But yeah, they are in the work of their 3rd album. I really wish their influence hadn't changed, the new sound is very lacking the Arctic Monkeys touch. It doesn't sound like them really, it sounds more like Alex's Last Shadow Puppets works. Which is fine, its a bit Arty and not ROCK! If they played new stuff and not their golden songs like Mardy Bum or 505 I wouldn't know what to do

 Re: arctic monkeys
Humbug is... meh. I liked the second album a LOT and the first album was delicious too. Favorite songs: Balaclava, Bet you look good..., When the sun goes down, View from the Afternoon, Brianstorm, and Teddy Picker.
Their third album is totally different from the Monkeys I liked.

 Re: arctic monkeys
I was very dissaointed. I mean, Humbug isn't a bad album, per se, but it's completely not what I want. The first album was amazing, every track was great. Even the second album was awesome, with only like 1 song I didn't necessarily care for. But this one, there were too many tracks I can easily over look. Cornerstone was pretty great, and Potion Approaching... Too many of the tracks sounded the same though...they're all way too mellow. If a few of the tracks were like that it'd be ok, but too be an entire album of mellow when the first two albums were so full of energy, it was really dissapointing. Coming off of those first two albums and into The Last Shadow Puppets was ok, it was a nice change. But that wasn't the Arctic Monkeys. That was the Last Shadow Puppets. When I heard the AM's were coming out with a new album, I was excited to see what they could come up with. However, it was not what I was expecting.
Overall: Worth the listen, but if you're looking for classic AM, Humbug isn't what you want.
So that was a good post if this thread were titled Humbug, but since it's titled Arctic Monkeys: I LOVE the Arctic Monkeys. They're first two albums were incredible. So full of energy! the instrumentation was awesome and the lyrics were top notch. I could listen to Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not over and over again, non stop. My favorite songs are literally every song on their first album, Despair in the Departure Lounge, Settle for the Draw, Who the **** are Arctic Monkeys?, and most every track on FWN. They're cover of Baby I'm Yours is also phenominal!

Thats what I love about them.

sounds like that would be a fun one to play.
Ive listened to both of their first two albums a lot, and at the end of the day, I can listen to the first more and more than the second. i think it's the upbeat-ness with that energy you spoke of myfoot. The second album had a much darker sense, and this brings me back to why I think the pillows do the same thing for me. They dont shred, they aren't dark; they are indeed uplifting, and maybe in the end people just want to feel good?
