 Neotokyo

Neotokyo was released the other day, as a completely free mod for Half-Life 2, or any of the source-engine games. It's a tactical, team based shooter, which is loosely based on Ghost in The Shell. I've been playing it every day since it came out, and I'm already realizing the potential. It's one of the most complete, enjoying, and engaging multiplayer shooters I have played in years.
Basically, there are two teams, who have to retrieve the Ghost (a robotic exoskeleton torso) and bring it to a capture point. There are three classes, equal on both sides. Recon is the fast class. Recon players can jump farther and run faster. They also have night vision goggles, and remote detonators. Assault is the basic infantry class, which can only run for a short amount of time. They have more powerful guns, a frag grenade, and movement detecting goggles. Support is the last class, which can't run, but has powerful weapons, smoke grenades, thermal goggles, and double the HP. Every class except support can cloak for a short period of time, allowing for advanced team based tactics.
There are two ways to win in Neotokyo. One is bringing the Ghost to a retrieval point. Each team has two on every map. The other way to win is to kill all of the players on the opposing team. This is the only mode right now (although they are planning more modes, such as a mode that allows players to instantly respawn, and a control-point capturing mode), and it plays sort of like 1-Flag modes. A player must drop their main weapon in order to carry the ghost. They are left with the Ghost itself, a pistol, their grenade(s), and their knife (which is not useful at all.) If you have the Ghost equipped, you can see the locations of all enemies, and how far away they are, allowing for even more strategy, but it's completely useless unless you have a microphone. Communication is extremely essential.
For a free game, Neotokyo is pretty damn professional. The graphics are extremely detailed, the maps are varied and balanced, and the sound is authentic to both Japan, and the anime series/movies. Even if you haven't seen Ghost in the Shell, this game is extremely addicting. I've been playing it opposed to CS:S, TF2, L4D, and COD4. It's not often that you see an indie game, let alone a mod, give blockbuster hits a run for their money.
10/10
