If they are garbage, then we should stop viewing and commenting on them. Honestly, I don't even look at any of the covers anymore, only the IM covers.
Read your own post there and think about it for a minute. Done? Okay, good. How are we going to know if they're good covers or garbage covers if we don't watch them? And generally the polite thing to do when you view a video is to leave some feedback, and if you're going to criticize, it's polite to also make a note of the things that they did well most of the time so as to not be a discouraging jackass.
I did read what I wrote, sure you HAVE to at least watch it once in order to criticize or offer some feedback, but I just don't do it. I think a cover is boring and pathetic I just don't watch it anymore. But the ones I do like are the ones I watch every now and then and give a short polite comment. I am by far nowhere near being a discouraging jackass Mare. I just proposed that we ONLY watch IM videos and focus on IM covers and not some crappy covers done by fans who live IN Japan and have access to tickets and access to the show compared to the rest of the world I still admire you Mare, I know what you meant, so I'm sorry for the harsh response.
Sorry, I think you didn't quite get my point. I doubt anybody is watching any of the crappy videos more than once. You can't know if a video is crappy or not until you watch it, and frankly, as great as it would be for someone from IM to win, as a participant I want to watch every single cover to see what I'm up against, and as a fan I want to watch every single cover because everybody should get their chance to show what they can do.

And I'm sorry for stating my point in such a rude manner. I'm kind of a grump lately (not being able to find a job anywhere is really starting to bother me). D;

Is this contest getting to you? Mare and I are both going to have a really solid entry, but there's no reason we just need to "focus" on viewing, and commenting on, and critiquing, and enjoying covers from IM. Let's face it, some of the strongest covers are going to come from IM, and OTHER PLACES IN THE WORLD, namely Japan. If this were some life or death situation in which the result could be decided by our little community either choosing to watch or not watch non-IM submissions, then I'd see your point. But it's not. This contest is a celebration of the pillows and the musical skill, dedication, and fandom of the people who enjoy their music.
Sawao and the gang are going to choose the video they like most. They will view ALL OF THEM. It's not up to us to decide the victor based on rating, comments, or view count. So enjoy all of the contributions if you can - yeah, some are pretty damn weak, so you only need to watch it once. But you're paranoid if you think that reviewing a strong Japanese submission could "throw" the contest for one of us IMers.
Take it from me, a soon-to-be contender: Lighten up.

I'm still dissapointed kind of, though.
I thought I was going to find a lot of stuff that was "mp3 worthy"... so far there's only a few covers that I've ripped to iTunes. Namely, the Beautiful Picture cover and the Hybrid Rainbow acoustic.

Oh shit!
You know what, we should be applying for passports and shit. I just checked and it seems that I have to reapply for one. It can take months, and you never know if you'll win so you people better get to it if you haven't already!

You can get a passport on the rush, but I think you'll be hit for another $50-75ish (on top of the $75-100ish getting a passport to begin with will run you) if you want one within a few days, instead of the couple weeks it would normally take up to.

^I see.
Well, last time I asked for a passport, for some reason it took them two months to get the damn thing to me. I guess there was lag. I almost missed my scheduled departure date because of it.

Damn I'm really feeling that Girls Don't Cry cover a lot. It got this 80's laid back vibe. I'm thinking of either doing a screamo version of one of their songs or do a rap of beautiful morning with you. I don't have much time but it'll be either or.

actually, they only view the top 20 finalists which they choose based on views. so once the finalists are announced, then there's nothing we can do about it. it would be a little insane if the band had to watch >100 covers.
oh hey whats up, i'm workin' on my video =]

1) They won't have to watch over 100 covers. They're coming in at a rate of one every other day or so. the pillows are not the Jonas Brothers. 2) I don't believe Sawao would be dumb enough to ignore an AMAZING cover just because it was #21 in view count. I'm aware of the rules, but I'm just putting that out there.
