I only liked FLCL for a little while, and it was after I had started listening to the pillows *shrug*.

Clearly, FLCL is not for everyone. It's just a wacky coming of age story. You can thank Gainax.

Anyways, I just watched Planetes a couple of weeks ago. One of my favorite anime shows. I've been on a role lately. First I saw Haibane Renmei, and now Planetes.

To some, it is a way of life.

Honestly though, I think it's just a beautifully done anime, it uses crazy animation technique switches for a really cool experience, great character development[which is somewhat rare in anime, which is usually archetypes], an interesting and emotional plot, and an astoundingly good soundtrack[so good that at times the animation seems to fit around the music and not the other way around].

The story is really good for only being six episodes long. It's the archetypal story of a kid growing up, but there are elements to it that I'm pretty sure we could all identify with. The puss 'n boots reference? Amazing. The crazy guy/gal we all look up to because they've got the balls to do whatever's on their mind? I dunno 'bout you, but the story with the soundtrack and the "feel" of the anime just resonate really strongly with me.

That's another thing about it, it's so short and yet it leaves an impression on you in the final episode, wanting more in a way. I don't think they were concerned with milking every penny out of the show, they just wanted to make a great story.
