Re: the pillows COVER CONTEST 〜ROAD to NIPPON BUDOKAN!!!〜
Ok, storyboards for my film for Youngster are underway. I had ideas for a few other songs... but they didn't develop beyond my initial brainstorming.
This weekend, I'm going to check out a children's park nearby and see if it has the set pieces I need. If it's a winning location, I'll get all my shot information planned out.
One thing I could use a suggestion for would be during a sequence for the last verse. In my storyboards, eventually the runner ends up at either (a.) an outdoor stage or (b.) a little league baseball field to stop and rest. When he arrives, he reflects on a time in the past when his dad took him to see a local band (in this case, the pillows, obviously). I'm weighing the two in terms of visual appeal. I'll gather some photos tomorrow of the two locations, as long as it isn't raining.
If I were to go ALL FILM for this video, then the biggest forseeable hurdle would be simulating the band during that ending sequence. The problems I see with having live actors for the performance would be (a.) finding willing participants (b.) determining whether setting up the band on location is possible or if it would have to be filmed indoors and simulated onto the location (c.) assembling a crowd on location or simulated onto the location.
Those are some big-time hoops to jump through, that's why I'm considering using Illustrator to create flash style animation for the band members. This seems like a good idea because I can physically put the pillows in the film for the performance. Since I have a physical copy of the Go! Go! Jupiter video, I could study the designs and dress them up like a local band in Illustrator. The only things to look out for with this method would be (a.) putting forth a quality effort on the character designs and key frames, and (b.) pre-planning the shots to incorporate the illustrations effectively. I think this is entirely possible for myself because the duration of shots that will incorporate these illustrations is only for a 20-30 second period.
I'll describe my narrative and storyboards another time. Also, rest assured, I'll be trying my damnedest to film this as professionally as possible. I intend to start filming sometime this weekend.

So Cloudy, are you doing the one person/karaoke thing then too and really focusing on the vid? Because that's what I'm going to do to. Sounds like you really have yours planned out too. Sounds like a good idea to me. I think the Go! Go! Jupiter reference in there in palce of the band would be awesome too. Right now, I'm trying to decide between three songs to do: Boku wa Kakera, Lesser Hamster in Blue, and Climibing on the Roof. I have some preliminary ideas for vids of all three, but I might be leaning more towards Lesser Hamster in Blue at this point. It's the easiest for me to articulate, however I have a pretty good idea for a video of Boku wa Kakera. But of course, Sawao's vocals are very fast in that song and it's going to pretty hard to annunciate all that well I think. I hope to make my film pretty professional too. My friends have some nice cameras they use to make their films, so I'm hoping the video looks better than the run of the mill entry.

Shit. I've been arranging Kono yo no Hate Made for piano and violin (using Sibelius) and the score is at nine pages already! This sucks. I can play my part, but I hope the violinist can learn this piece adequately in a short amount of time. This is actually a lot of music... I'll probably add on another page before it's done. Ten page score! Also, more than anyone else's, I want to hear GR and Mare's cover! EDIT: Make that 13 pages... Man. This is more complex than I was hoping.

That's awesome, Brye. Congrats!
Hrmm... I had the idea to also 'translate' a song to English as well. I didn't think the lyrics those guys did for 'Girls don't cry' were too bad. It is pretty hard to get it to flow though.
In any case, somebody from IM must place at least. Ganbatte!

Haha, I know right. I feel so relieved knowing I have a ticket now. Tell you the truth I have no idea where she lives, or what she looks like. She's just a fan in Tokyo who caught some of my messages on the pillows official forum. She offered to help me the best she could.

I will, I'll try to take as many pictures as possible and make a little video!! GR made one when he went to Japan, so I'll do something like that.
