Dragon Ball Evolution (and my review)
Today, I woke up at 11:30am. I got dressed, went outside, got in the car, and got dropped off at the movie theater. I paid $9.50 at the ticketbooth for one adult ticket for Dragon Ball Evolution. I then stuck my head in my ass, expecting to experience the worst movie I'd ever seen, possibly even topping Street Fighter: The Movie. I left the theater satisfied, surprised, and in a state of enjoyment.
The movie is basically a modernization of the original Dragon Ball series, where Goku is a child. In the movie, Goku is a 17 year old boy who lives with his grandfather in the middle of nowhere. He is unusually strong, has abnormal powers, but looks like a normal human being. His grandfather gives him a dragon ball, but isn't told much about it. Piccolo has escaped from his spiritual prison, and begins to search for the dragon balls, in order to wish for the Earth's destruction. Goku meets Bulma, they both meet Master Roshi, and go on a quest to find the dragon balls. The characters that appear in this movie are: Grandpa Gohan, Goku, Bulma, Master Roshi, Yamcha, and evil Piccolo.
Let's just get one thing out of the way first: Yes, Goku is played by an American actor. However, he plays Goku as well as I'd imagine someone could. He's childish and clumsy, but brave and willing.
Please, please don't take this movie that seriously. A friend of mine did, and he was extremely disappointed. The differences between the movie and the series are that Goku goes to highschool, which is in a city similar to the cities seen in DBZ. The technology is unusually high, due to Capsule Corp, and the people are completely oblivious about what's going on around them. This seems to be one of the biggest complaints that people give, but the highschool drama doesn't even hold for a significant period of time in the movie. Only a few minutes tops. There are also differences in speed. The movie doesn't really bother to cover what happens between Grandpa Gohan's death (which doesn't even occur in the actual Dragon Ball series, it occurs before it) and Piccolo's arrival. There's no Red Ribbon Army, no robots, no dinosaurs, no jungle life, no Krillin. Just his meeting with Roshi, and then his confrontation with Piccolo. This isn't really a problem, since it would take at least 3 movies to cover the entire Dragon Ball series. The special effects are nothing amazing, but the characters are fun enough to keep up with.
Dragon Ball Evolution isn't an great movie. It's not going to save all future anime movies from utter destruction, and isn't going to convince anyone who doesn't like Dragonball that there might be something they're missing. It's also not entirely supposed to be an adaptation of the anime, hence 'Evolution.' It's a fun movie to watch, though.
On a scale of 1-10, I'd give the movie between a 6.5 and a 7.5. No higher, no lower.

So it's a seven.
Got it.

Well, I meant anywhere in that range, but yeah. A 7 would be a good number to go by.

His rating system is so specific and accurate that only a range will suffice. It's not like it's arbitrary and subjective at all.

I give this post a 9.46/10.

Indeed. A range, or a really long decimal.
Maybe a 7.4523986666...

Re: Dragon Ball Evolution (and my review)
I'd say on a rating system 1-10, I'd give it OVER NINE THOUSAAAAND! *crush*
It had to be done, and who couldn't see that coming?

Re: Dragon Ball Evolution (and my review)
So two of my friends went and saw this, they said that if you go in expecting it to be terrible, you will be able to enjoy it simply because it is so terrible, but if you go in hoping that they wouldn't fuck over the story of Dragon Ball, you'd hate it.

Re: Dragon Ball Evolution (and my review)
I went on Friday with a bunch of friends.
We laughed our asses off.
The ending is especially hilarious. Goku does this gay stance and yells "DRAGON!!!!!!!!! I COMPEL U!!!!!"
Also, Yamcha is useless in this movie. He doesn't do anything at all, except be annoying with his ludicrous Californian "SURFER DUDE" accent.

Re: Dragon Ball Evolution (and my review)
It's hilarious. Hands-down the best audience experience (I guess you could say) I've had since Snakes on a Plane. I usually don't like the audience yelling out crap during the movie, but for Dragonball it was funny as hell.
I guess it helped that my friends and I were buzzed at the time.

I wonder how many stories would be more awesome if that was just tagged along at the end.

I don't think we would have normally kidnapped and gangbanged a girl for a week straight... I guess it helped that my friends and I were buzzed at the time.
