Anybody else think it's kind of retarded to compare an album side by side like that?

LB has some of the "stronger" songs, by it's weighed down by Happy Zoo, Nowhere, Black Sheep, and LB Reply. Nowhere and Black Sheep are by no means bad, but they, along with the other two, make for a less balanced album. Also, this was very nearly a tie, because Blues Drive Monster DOES kick a ton of ass. But I've become really fond of Kim Deal, so that's what won out.
I don't know. Maybe Metal

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
Actually, I agree with Mare. It's stupid to compare albums side by side. In GR's case, it was a little more justified with those albums.
In this case, I think Pied Piper does start out stronger... but Wake Up has an overall sound that I like more.

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
By comparing two albums side by side, you are basically making the assumption that the goal of each song, what it's doing for the album, is the same simply because it's the same track number. How else could you justify doing it that way as being a way to decide which album is "better?"

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
I was just comparing two great albums, but figuring out which one I like more, based on which songs I like more. The album with more songs that I like wins out over the album with less songs that I like. Track number doesn't have much to do with it.

Yup, I'm wanted to changing my vote. I'm digging PP a little more today.

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
I think the Electric Rays release hurt Pied Piper...otherwise I bet we would have had Mr. Droopy/Bite Me & Voice on the actual album instead of 3 songs that appeared on past releases. WUx3 I think is a more complete album from a concept/production/delivery point of view. How would you guys have rated WUx3 if Ladybird Girl was on it? To me that song is from that era, not Pied Piper (hell it was even written in 2006!).

Ladybird girl didn't do it for me after listening to it 3 times.

I have to agree here. I said when PP came out that those three songs, and Finger Post would have done much better on the actual album. I absolutely LOVE Finger Post. Listening to that for the first time made me realize that the pillows still had it after being mildly dissapointed by Ladybird Girl and Tokyo Bambi. I think if you would've taken off Across the Metropolis, Ladybird Girl, Purple Apple and add Bite Me/Voice, Finger Post, and Mr. Droopy, you have a much better album. I love Purple Apple, but I think that would've worked better as a b-side and out of the two songs were the Dohautsen Brothers did guest vocals on, Finger Post was a lot better. And if you guys noticed, Mr. Droopy is on Once Upon A Time in the pillows, so obviously it's been thought of very highly.

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
First I did it for my own judgement, it wasn't like it really mattered, I thought it would be fun to do the same as GR and choose what songs I LIKED MORE THAN ANOTHER I wasn't emplying that it makes the album better I did it out of boredom and didn't want to do HW. Really, I think that a lot of songs on Pied Piper were very unfitting, Wakeupx3 did have the more solid structure and choice of songs. I can see that the flow of the album is relativley the same, the only Song that kind of brings down the album for me that kind of brings down the album for me has to Serious Plan. Propose was a little So I didn't really listen to it much, but Private Kingdom,Youngster, and Scarecrow have To take the whole thing. The only songs I really liked on Pied Piper were, New animal, No Surrender, and Poison Rock'n'roll. I agree that Finger Post of Magic should have been on Pied Piper

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
Take everything good about Wake Up and produce more of it - you now have Pied Piper.
P.S. Patricia over Funny Bunny? It's a good song, but c'mon.

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
Jeez, I'm trying to describe how I feel about Tokyo Bambi. I think it's a great song, but not something you could easily recommend. I can't see it meshing well in a playlist. It's long, the vocals and bass are dominant, it has a wordy chorus... To me, the entire thing hinges on Sawao's singing. In a playlist it gets boring fast because you aren't really concentrating on the vocals. When I plop down and listen to it, I get into the singing, the vibe of the video comes up and it's very enjoyable. I guess if you think of it as a rock song then it's kinda shitty. It doesn't go over very well live. Purple Apple is awesome. Amusing and clearer-than-usual english, the song starts in the middle, great bass hook, suggesting that Purple Apple should not be on Pied Piper is a horrible thought. Mr. Droopy and Finger Post are great songs, I'd put them on Pied Piper with Across the Metropolis and Last Holiday going on the New Animal single. Ladybird Girl time warps somewhere onto Wake Up! Black Sheep (White Version) is recorded and put on Pied Piper. Texan Daily Life gets an album version that is totally high energy and rocks your face off. The acoustic is cool, but it feels like a missed opportunity. Keep Voice and Bite Me out of Pied Piper, for fuck sake. Fantasy Pied Piper: Pied Piper No Surrender Go! Go! Jupiter New Animal Black Sheep (White Version) Finger Post of Magic! Mr. Droopy Tokyo Zombie Purple Apple Texan Daily Life (Album Version) That's a Wonderful World (Song for Hermit) Poison Rock'N'Roll Because of all this shuffling around of which songs I like and don't like on Pied Piper, I have to give it to Wake Up! The album felt more like one whole piece, while Pied Piper seemed like it and all the singles were pumped out a little too quickly. Perhaps if the tracklist above were the truth, it'd be a lot closer to call. There is definitely a unique vibe to Wake Up! that is a bit sadder and somewhat under-rated. It would be that versus this more straightforward rock rush of Pied Piper, and the way I see it, the actual Pied Piper album kinda falls on it's ass with Last Holiday, Across the Metropolis, Ladybird Girl all not matching the vibe, as well as Tokyo Bambi not playing well with others. Opinions and Delusions! Quite fun to discuss.

Re: Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up! vs. Pied Piper
Pied Piper's front half is fucking solid, even "Across the Metropolis," which I was quite sour on for awhile. The second half has the unfortunate abortion of "Ladybird girl," but hell, it kind of works in the album proper. "Purple Apple" is fucking sweet, what the hell are you all on about.
Whereas Wake up! is still almost completely abysmal to me. I do not know where you guys muster up such love for "Scarecrow," "Propose" and "Youngster," because I number them among the worst pillows songs. And the rest is mediocre drivel, aside from "Century Creepers" which levels goddamn cities.

Not much love for Skinny blues, I see.
I probably liked WUx3 better, but I'm not a huge fan of either album.
