Re: what are you reading?
Oh hell no. What exactly is so fellate-worthy of that novel?
The main character's dream job is to thwart natural selection by hanging out in a fucking field of rye (specifically rye, catcher in the cornfield just sounds silly, and would probably be an unfulfilling occupation), next to a cliff, where these fucking stupid-assed kids are apparently playing, preventing them from running off the God-damned cliff. Basically, he's a lifeguard. For retarded children.
Catcher in the Rye is basically what Flowers For Algernon would have been like if Charlie (Holden) never received the surgery.

Re: what are you reading?
I have managed to avoid reading Catch in the Rye so far, and have no real burning desire to read it, especially if it's anything like those other "greats" like Hemmingway...i.e. boring as fuck.

how old were you when you read it? after your pretentiousness gland was already fully developed?
to most every preteen/young adult i know it's a pretty damn moving book. things generally dont become so classic or well-known without reason.

Re: what are you reading?
I liked The Catcher in the Rye. Bought a second-hand issue filled with handwritten notes in Korean. And I should begin reading Moby Dick soon.

Re: what are you reading?
My pretentiousness gland was fully-developed when I was 6, so yes.
I generally find myself in agreement with AWPJudy, but what the fuck was moving about that book? Holden getting pimp slapped for dealing in prostitution? Him getting nearly molested by his shady-assed professor? Him having to deal with labeling everyone a phony due to his own subjective reasoning (or lack thereof)? Moving is one thing. Retarded is another.
And I'd just like to mention that Flowers for Algernon was a great book.

Re: what are you reading?
I don't remember much about Flowers for Algernon except that I enjoyed it. But that's how it is for a lot of books I haven't read for ages.
I need to reread Watership Down and Ender's Game, I haven't done so this year.
