Asobi Seksu is a close choice. They've even played together in Japan. Their "Citrus" CD I'd recommend for a first listen.
Lol, that was the next band I was going to look up.

Re: Luminous Orange
I finally got around to downloading Sakura Swirl, and damn! I love it, probably as much as Vivid Short Trip 7 Stops Farther. Based on my first listen, I don't think there was a song that I actually disliked, but I'll probably post more on that subject another time.
But IM, will you do me a big favor and upload Vivid Short Trip 7 Stops Farther? I will be permanently indebted to whoever does so.
Also newbs: If you haven't checked out Luminous Orange, I highly implore you do so.

Re: Luminous Orange
Sakura Swirl is a fairly strong album but the stuff Rie's written since then, quite frankly, blows it away. Sea of Lights, Autumn Song, and the other two or three new songs all sound amazing, and I really can't wait for a new LO record.

Re: Luminous Orange
@ Blank: I'll PM it to you later today or something. And the new songs are on her myspace. Kinda in the same vein of Coaltar of the Deepers, another band that I'll recommend only to be totally ignored.

If you don't want to play a crapload of money to import a compilation album, you can get LO's delicious new song Tay Rail Bridge on iTunes! (It's Plus, I might add.)

I'm quite literally too poor to support the artists I like by purchasing their music.

Re: Luminous Orange
WTF? Why didn't I see this topic sooner? I've been getting into a lot of shoegaze over the summer and Luminous Orange is up there with the bands I've been checking out. So far I've only managed to download Drop You Vivid Colors and Sugarplastic but I'm definitely loving all the songs. I've also been big on Coaltar (completed my collection of their discography a couple of months ago) as well as Asobi Seksu (just started listening to Asobi Seksu this month). I also have a couple of bands to throw out here. One to check out is Hartfield, their music is pretty decent and they even have a pretty good cover of MBV's "Soon", though at times their tracks seem to run together a lot (very upbeat stuff that sounds great but I'd like some change on occasion). The other band you guys have to check out is honeydip, their music is simply amazing and fucking beautiful, totally addicting at that.

Luminous Orange
Amazing band I never hear enough about these parts. Any other fans out there? They have a great shoegaze sound with velvety female lead vocals. I can't get enough of them, and they just released a new album yesterday... which I can't find anywhere... iTunes or otherwise. But if you haven't heard them before, you're missing out. They remind me a lot of Lush, some of the most amazing melodies I've ever heard on here and layers upon layers of guitars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeP3jdOCyuU

Re: Luminous Orange
There should be more music videos like that, That was seriously fun to watch.
But yeah, I'm pretty mush hooked, I'm listening to "Autumn song" right now.

Re: Luminous Orange
Shit, why do I have to necropost in a topic that's well over a year old? More than half the people that were discussing this aren't even here anymore, why not start a new topic? If it's not on the first two pages, then it's old and dead.
Anyways, Autumn Song is on the new album, I guess Rie's been wanting to get it out there for a while. And that's actually the first time I watched that vid too, good stuff. I can't decide what my favorite album is though, Sugarcoated or Sakura Swirl.
