You said "give the manga artist time to catch up" as if the manga were behind the anime, when really, the reason is so the anime won't get to close to the manga.
I JUST SAID a manga is typically much father ahead of the anime series. I've read my post over and over i don't see anywhere where I'm implying I think otherwise.
Anyways, yeah. It doesn't really matter.
It doesn't.

Anyway I don't read manga cause its just way too fucking expensive here, and i'm not a huge anime fan like used to be, so when i decide to spend time on it, i'd rather just watch an animated series.

I hardly ever read manga and when I do I just read the scanlations. Seriously, I don't like books at all. It's free and has (generally) better/uncut translations.

It's on my "to do" list over the summer, actually.
Sup. I finally started to watch this shiz (on ep 10 atm) and I lawled as hell when Kamina took Lagann and drilled it into his head and was all, "Look! I've got two heads now too!" Aaaahahaha, that was so ridiculous.

But I really do like this anime. At first, it really reminded me of FFVII...just the feel it gave off, being stuck underground, following the railroad tracks wherever they take you...It just reminded me of AVALANCHE and Midgar.

Kamina is in the highest tier of badass, along with Guts from Berserk and Great Teacher Onizuka.

And if you don't cry manly tears in episode 8/11, you are broken.

Uh... I don't know what anime others have mentioned, but I'll just mention what I like:

Ichigo 100% - anime's ok (manga is my favorite ever), Cowboy Bebop, RahXephon, Trigun, Death Note (definitely), Azumanga Daioh, The Guyver, Jungle Wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu, and some others.

Hehe, I find that Death Note generally became fail after a certain point... mainly after a certain someone died. It was great though, until unsaid character died... then it dropped off a bit.

Anyone watching Code Geass? I love that show. I didn't watch the subs though, I'm watching it on Adult Swim. It's got a good dub and everything.

Nah but seriously, I don't care what the language, I will ALWAYS choose to watch a foreign movie subbed over dubbed.

I lol'd.

Anyways, I watch a lot of anime subbed and dubbed. I like subs better, but dubs can be good. The Cowboy Bebop dub, for example, is almost flawless, though I think Faye's Japanese actor was just better than her English actor (think Wendee Lee did the English acting).

Still, I don't like to watch anime illegally, so I usually just wait for DVDs to get released so that I can view the subs then. I can wait for the DVD release for Code Geass before I watch it subbed. In the mean time, I'll watch the English Dub on Adult Swim.

The dub for FLCL was seriously almost exactly spot-on, and was amazing.

I do agree with Mare though, I will always prefer to watch a subbed movie over a dubbed one.

The thing is, when you subtitle something, you're not limited by trying to make a script that matches the mouth movements. Thus, you can do a more accurate translation. Oftentimes things have to be sacrificed to make a dub work smoothly.

This is true. Dubs do have to sacrifice a lot of things and if not done well (let's use... Dragon Ball Z or old school Pokemon for an example), you get something completely horrid. However, there are dubs out there that have been sweated over for hours and hours and over to produce a final product that is very impressive for being a dub. Cowboy Bebop is a pretty good example of this, and I'd also say that Fullmetal Alchemist hit the nail pretty good too.

But like I said, I do watch subs; it's just that I usually watch the dubs first because I don't like to download/watch the fansubs (I just don't really believe in them anymore). I limit myself to TV broadcasts to see what I might like, and then I go out and purchase the series on DVD, where I can then watch the show subbed.

As for shows that are not broadcast on TV, I just wait for the releases to become available for rental, read a few reviews on the net, and then go out and rent the first volume. If I like what I get, I'll buy the series on DVD, where I can watch it dubbed AND subbed. It's true that this tactic those not allow me to see the newest anime NAO, but I'm patient, and there are plenty of older, classic anime out there for me to watch in the meantime. Also, when I finally do make my purchases, the asking price usually finds greatly, and if I search hard enough, I can find complete series for cheap prices (I got Cowboy Bebop complete WITH the movie for $35)!

I've never watched a single episode of Code Geass, but I still think C.C is another one of those anime characters I can say is hot.

Well, the thing about probably 80% or more fansubs you find out there is that the "translations" are done by people who only know any Japanese due to being huge anime nerds. They're generally going to sort of bullshit it because they don't have a full grasp on the language. The other 20% are done by people who've actually given the language some sort of intensive study for real.

I have the same problem with people who haven't fully/formally studied Japanese translating songs (lol after I used to try to do it, though I did it mainly as a learning effort and never claimed that mine were perfect). You see a lot of people offering up translations that are mistake-ridden, ignore a shitload of importan grammar, and totally bullshit chunks, and people eat them up.

And some other stuff too.
It's funny that you should say that, because while I'm watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, I'm recognizing words with much more ease and frequency. If I become a total weaboo over the summer, I'd have a pretty decent grasp on the anime-spoken form of the language.

Before you prattle on about how it's a stupid idea and will ruin Nihongo, I'm just going to say in response: I know. I'm looking at this as more of a vocabulary expansion pack...or something.

And for the thing about translating stuff, I know exactly what you mean. While it's somewhat hard to phrase things properly, you can still translate stuff from Japanese into English without some seriously fucked up grammar.
