Here is the first attempt at a jazz song, this of course coming from a rock

and blues player. I have a friend who knows alot of jazz guys and he was
going to pass a CD of my playing around to them, so I wanted to have something that sounded like or was even remotely close to jazz. Tell me what needs fixing on the track, because I have found that I can't be writer, performer, and judge of my songs. Sadly, Hi Fi barley sounds decent. Oh and close your ears to the drum track, it really is terrible...I have no control over that.

I think the song title fits.

I like, any criticism I have here is essentially nitpicking. Sounds more like a jazz blues track than an outright jazz song though, not that there's anything wrong with that. The chord progression was pretty bluesy, as was the rhythm. The lead seemed a bit pentatonic for jazz, but that's probably mostly a product of the chord progression. The lead run around 0:33 seems like it get a bit off time, but it's very slight and probably not worth worrying over.

Thanks for taking the time to listen, I'm glad you liked it.

And I completely agree about the overall blues feel to that song. For some reason I just can't "Not play blues"...maybe I should just say it's in the Hard Bop era of jazz so I sound like I know what I'm talking about.

I mixed in Lydian and Mixolydian along with the minor pentatonic

but again, like you said, the whole solo leans more toward the pentatonic.

The little flurry around 30 sec does get a bit off, so I have been working on
different leads, just trying to clean them up a little. While I was recording it, all I could think about was Tal Farlow, so I was pushing the speed too much.
I see that more now.
