-.16 to .75-inch thickness on top
-12.8 x 8.94 inches
-5 hours of battery life with everything running
-Intel Core 2 Duo Processor at 1.6 or 1.8GHz, motherboard the length of a pencil.
-2GB RAM 667MHz DDR2 standard.
-13.3-inch screen, LED backlit.
-1,280 x 800 pixels
-1.8-inch 80GB HD or 64GB Solid State Drive (no moving pieces, but for a stunning $1,300 price increase!)
-Multitouch trackpad with gestures. Pans, zooms, rotates, etc.
-Optional external HD for $99, USB-bus powered.
-Full backlit keyboard.
-One USB 2.0, one audio port, one Micro-DVI
Although there's no optical drive (CD, DVD) and only 1 USB port...THIS IS STILL AWESOME.

Aside from looking sleek and cool, the whole concept just seems shitty, stupid, and impractical. Really, who uses disk drives or USB? On a computer?
MacBook Pros are great (albeit overpriced). They should just stick to making those better (or cheaper) instead of trying to be trendy. Then again, they are Apple.

it does seem a little over the top, but then again i think that it benefits those rich as hell business people out there who do a TON of traveling (and there are alot out there). I mean it really covers the basics, wireless connectivity, internet productivity with alot of memory to run tons of apps at once (projects, email, all the stuff that business people use) and i think the definite selling point on this thing is the mad awesome lightweight design. 3 pounds will feel like nothing.....
but i agree, i think they should just keep working out the kinks (whatever they are...) in the macbooks and make em at least cheaper. christ i want one.

you know if you stare at it long enough, it'll break into a billion fucking pieces. A neat trick that can only be done to electronics that don't look IN THE LEAST BIT fragile such as this one. But in all seriousness, this really does nothing for apple except convince a small percentage of mac faithful that thin, slimmer look=probably/maybe/should/could mean a better bargain overall. Which is I don't know, pretty wrong? Totally wrong? Gonna go with totally wrong.

Shit, if you sneeze on it, it will break in half.
Sure, it's aesthetically appealing, but damn... hundreds of dollars more money just to have it be thinner (and less durable(?)). Don't get me wrong, I've got respect for Apple for being a good business, but if they did for computers what they've done for ipod... I really don't see what the point in having the thinnest laptop ever is, unless if that laptop was in your arm like Random did in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy... that would be badass.
So, who wants a T.V. in their wrist? I know I do.

Yeah. It's definitely not my sort of thing.
Perfect laptop for me:
100GB+ harddrive
1GB or more RAM
Excellent battery life
Small form factor, but not necessarily slim. Like the Toshiba Libretto, but better and not as expensive.

Apple is a shitty business. They've only just gotten going in the past five years or so, with the dawn of the iPod. A little before then was the iMac - which was essentially a shitty computer in a clever package.

This laptop is silly. Seriously. Why the heck would you want it thin? I mean you can take it anywhere. But why so so thin? =S I saw it on the tv earlier. And the guy holding the laptop seemed to be grasping it so gentle. Thus if he grasped it to hard it would of break?
haha.
No cd drive? Only one usb drive? Really! So i can't have my mp3 player running as well as my usb storage drive? =/ No cd? Meaning it will be preloaded with a bunch of uneeded software photoshop etc(To me atleast)

Look man, they took on IBM back in the day, the pretty much owned schools in the 90's, especially with the insurgence of the iMac, and today dominate the mp3 player industry.
Whether or not you like the company is irrelevant. They're still a good business because they make a lot of money off of a lot of people.

The fact that Apple doesn't comply with sheerheartattack's college Economics education standard of what a good business "should be" doesn't take away from the fact that:
-tons of people use Macs for graphic design, video editing, and audio work.
-tons of schools have used them for educating kids (there must be some -benefit to choosing a Mac over a PC here)
-they essentially started the whole mp3 player "revolution".
-their team of designers is unparalleled.
-many more smaller factors, such as...releasing great products for free on their machines (iMovie) where they could easily have sold it (alright alright, iMovie isn't Adobe Premier or Final Cut, but it sure rocks for $0)
I think it's pointless to damn a company just because they consider the consumer in their actions more than others...

If I could justify buying a laptop at all, I would pay decent money for a laptop that didn't threaten to lower my shoulder 3 inches when I drag it around. Even laptops that aren't monstrous (< 10 pounds) still seem way too heavy when you're carrying around your own luggage and the laptop accessories as well. The whole point of a laptop is that it's portable, and I still don't consider most laptops comfortably portable. I sometimes use a company laptop that weighs about 6 pounds, and that's still too heavy when I'm dragging it all over an airport.

I like sturdy laptops with good specs, and don't mind a few extra pounds for it. My solution was to just get a backpack for my laptop (not just one that has a space for one, but one that was designed with that in mind first. It's lasted me longer than any other backpack I've ever had so far, and it keeps my laptop safe and makes it really easy to carry my laptop (along with textbooks, etc) around without any strain.

It looks like a lunch tray. I would eat my lunch on it.

Mare is hueg and strong, though.
To me this seems like a laptop for travelers who need to stay connected, already have plenty of luggage, and have enough disposable income to justify the purchase (considering they likely already have at least one other computer).
