The song has been written and played frequently for months now, I'm pretty sure they've had lots of time to polish it. And my other post was a joke, I'm aware of the difference. :3
I just can't help but think what would happen if Sawao took two or three years to write Wake Up! Wake Up! Wake Up!
Ideally, it'd go something like this:
Wake Up! dodo - "Hey, this is pretty good!" ::KEEP::
YOUNGSTER (Kent Arrow) - "RUNNERS HIGH much?" ::KEEP::
PROPOSE - "Hmmm...this solo is lacking. We can fix it." ::KEEP, REWORK::
SCARECROW - "Kickin' desu" ::KEEP::
BOAT HOUSE - "Epic win!!!" ::KEEP::
Pleasure Song - "Uh...maybe a b-side on the next album" ::SCRAP::
Serious Plan - "...well, the 'buenos tardes' and 'guten morgen' parts are kinda cool...." ::SCRAP::
Skinny Blues - "Hm. The first half of the solo may need some reworking, Manabe. And let's rehaul the verse, shall we?" ::KEEP::
Private Kingdom - "This song is such an oddball, I don't even know what direction I was going in when I wrote it. It's decent but...still." ::SCRAP::
Century Creepers - "MANABE WHAT THE FUCK. WHY THE HELL WEREN'T YOU SPEED PICKING FOR THE SOLO?! THINK "HYBRID RAINBOW", "KONO YONO HATE MADE", "LAST DINOSAUR". This is supposed to be the faster-tempo ass-kicker of the album! We're THE PILLOWS, not AKG! Get your head in the game!!!" ::KEEP, REWORK::
Sweet Baggy Days "Manabe, tone it down, seriously. This would make a good b-side though..." ::SCRAP::
That's 7/11 consistently solid tracks. The extra year or two could give Sawao time to culminate ideas and pick the best. I think it'd be cool.

I think that I agree that 7 of the songs really kick ass, but I'd disagree over which ones. I REALLY don't see your AKG impression, but even then, they're a good band. And scrapping Pleasure Song? Come on, a few muted notes doesn't make it a shitty song. It's got a great chorus, good verse, and ass-kicking solo. Serious Plan, along with Boat House, has some of the coolest guitar/bass interplay the pillows have ever done. Just because the chorus is lyrically boring doesn't mean the song sucks, it just means you're only paying attention to the single flaw of the song. And Private Kingdom is just amazing, lyrically, musically, everything. The only thing wrong with Century Creepers was that it was short, it still rocks harder than anything else since TYMT. And Sweet Baggy Days is awesome, period. :3
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here, Grey.

Octave power chords.
They sound very similar.

Let's all remember that HAPPY SLAVE's chorus just goes "happy? happy? happy slave!". (I know the song's alot sexier and better than SBD and Serious Plan)

Why are you scrapping Pleasure Song and Private Kingdom, those are like the two best on the album...

Pleasure Song is good, not great (imo) and Private Kingdom I like. So I don't think they deserved to be kicked to the curb.

I wasn't really aware that they played the song frequently so...and I know it was a joke. Funny thing is, I was playing pokemon while reading that post. =D
and AKG? Grey, are you saying all around or are you talking about a specific song?

You obviously didn't listen to their Advice you Son of a Beach. Anyway, I'm glad the pillows have done their job to Please Mr. Lostman since he's rockin' out so much to their album. To think that I thought Mare was the Black Sheep of IM with his uber-fandome and positive reviews...
Wow. I don't even know what to say to that.
lol would work because it was 100% unserious.

Just one song: Century Creeper's solo.
Play the first 20 seconds of Kimi to Iu Hana and Rewrite by AKG. Then skip to the solo of Century Creepers. It's not a HUGE connection, but it's definitely there. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying Sawao is ripping off Masafumi Gotoh, or that only AKG can use octave power chords. It's just a...sonic simularity.
Private Kingdom just...doesn't sit really well with me. The chorus is fine, but the verse starting at 1:18 with the acoustic/clean guitar...just sounds...I dunno. It reminded me of Glider Pro (if anyone has played that old school computer game). It just doesn't seem like the verse and chorus fit together. The verse is quirky, different, and sort of carefree...while the chorus is more standard, and...a bit darker sounding? It's hard to explain.

Hahah i was playing silver on my gba, but on my other computer, I have the gba emulator with fire red, leaf green, etc.
yeah and I'd need to listen to the solo again and see the similarity...i don't really remember it.
