But I will never be able to comprehend how the pillows sound like the Pixies.
some of their songs are very similar... Thank you, my twilight uses the same chord progression in the chorus that the Pixies used for Wave of Mutilation.
I'm almost 100% sure that chord progressions are probably the worst thing to use to draw comparisons between two bands. It's almost like saying that both bands use notes, so they must be similar.

i'm not drawing comparisons between the bands themselves; just their sound. i'm saying it's the same chord progression (and it is), thus it sounds like the Pixies. and that leads people to think that they're like the Pixies...

But a band's "sound" has little to do with a particular chord progression that may have been used in their songs. Especially since a band's "sound" can make the same chord progression sound entirely different.

I don't know of any American bands that sounds like the pillows but I'm currently working on making a band that could potentionally sound like them.

I always thought the chord progression in TYMT sounded like "Where is my Mind?"

No band really sound like the pillows. Ted Leo doesn't really, I dunno.
The only band that I can think that I went "WOW, THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE PILLOWS" when I heard it, is Tetsuwan Fireball. Alot of their lead guitar lines are very pillows-esque.

In after clouds's idiocy and pointless posting.
I haven't heard any bands that really remind me too much of the pillows. Not many bands have done such a huge range of styles, and Yamanaka's voice is pretty easy to recognize. Also, Manabe's guitar style at times is pretty apparent, especially with those octave things.

Clouds has a point though. The Blue Album and Pinkerton were awesome, but their later work wasn't the same. The same can be said for the pillows when we got awesome albums in the late 90's, but when you compare Good Dreams or My Foot to those albums, you can tell they're not as good. I'm not saying the newer work sucks, I enjoy most of it, it's just that the general consensus is those earlier albums were better.
And for the record while getting slightly off topic, Weezer is not suckage. Go listen to In the Garage.

I would personally compare My Foot to the three godly albums we know best as Runners High, Little Busters, and Happy Bivouac.
