Looks neat, but like all operating systems, it's just not worth it to buy it by itself.

If I had gotten a computer from my school, I would have received a free upgrade. However, the flipside is that they would have been able to more efficiently monitor my internet actions such as piracy lol. Thus, I'm happy with shitty ol' XP Home. :o

It's actually no different from XP to tell the truth. Same look as XP, added features, and same user friendly interace.

Problem is, we need to upgrade to an actual Windows software to get some of the nice features that are advertised and some basic programs like Word. Yes, that means I don't have Windows Aero (the neat flippy 3D windows.)

:(

At least some of the games are sweet. InkBall is great fun, and Purple Place is great for the kids.

The only thing from Microsoft that I'm interested in is my new mouse that's in the mail.

Like all operating systems, I think Vista will take time to mature. I'm not interested in getting it just yet.

I mean hell, I've finally bludgeoned XP into working the way I want it to again.

enjoy needing 13057125 jiggabitts of RAM for the latest bloated MS product whose only neat features are a direct apple ripoff.

which are, in turn, linux ripoffs.

i've heard (and seen for myself) that vista is actually faster than xp. the sleep mode is also really efficient, apparently (it uses almost no power and doesn't need your fans to be on. this means you can sleep more easily with your computer on... yay if you're into that).

i'm gona format and reinstall sometime soon... i'll try vista then probably remove it and use xpsp2 since i only have 224 ram. w3rd.

osx ripped off kde. then kde ripped off osx. then vista ripped off both kde and osx.

if you really want to know, look at the development of kde over time. you'll see in the begining that it was the precursor for osx, then osx came out and bumped up the bar, and now kde is really pretty. is it nicer than osx? that depends on your viewpoint. i personally don't care but you've really got to acknowledge that osx is not some kind of brainchild of jobs and wozniak or something. it's just the progression of software over time, and built off of a lot of *nix development (hell, it took bsd code line for line).

ugh, why does this always have to come up?

Haha. Linux is getting a nice completely 3d-accelerated interface upgrade, but at the moment it's still in dev. I've tried it, though. It kicks major fucking ass.

I find it tough to believe that Vista is faster than a clean install of XP. When freshly installed, XP is damn snappy. It just gets bogged down quickly with all the gunk that accumulates when you, y'know, use it.

osx is a direct ripoff of nextstep and openstep. which WERE steve jobs' brainchild.

and yeah, osx is sitting on top of BSD, so all the different (unix) OS's advances are kinda linked together.

this is by far the stupidest thing i've ever read on wikipedia... oh, mac users.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dock_%28computing%29

i still wouldn't call it a direct ripoff. linux (specifically kde) took from nextstep, but the whole widget thing is entirely linucks... BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH SOMEONE FIND THE LINKS TO THE PREVIOUS ARGUMENTS.
