Link is a leftie.
However he was right-handed in the N64. Must be ambidextrous.

The images from Ocarina of Time with Link holding the sword on his right hand are mirrored.
The only time he is right handed is in the Wii version of Twilight Princess.

Red Steel is a confirmed launch title.
I'm planning on getting it the first day with Twilight Princess, and probably Red Steel.

So in case you haven't heard yet, Wii games are going to be region free and there won't be any DVD playback. It's mentioned at the end of this long interview.
The weeaboo in me is very excited about being able to play the Japanese version of One Piece Grand Adventure.

Actually, I think that IGN Wii reported that region free playback was scrapped, according to Nintendo Europe.
I knew about the DVD thing. I kind of wanted to see it happen. Even if the Wii isn't really "competing" with the other 2. But I do understand the reasons why. And it's true, alot of people already have DVD players.

The Wii is looking better every day. I never bought a 360 because I figured I would hold out for a PS3...but now the world of Playstation is looking pretty grim...
The Playstation 2 arguably has the best game selection and definately the largest. It also has my all-time favorite controller, so to me, the PS3 would be my obvious choice. Now, the Wii has really been getting my attention lately because not only does Nintendo seem to be more on top of their game than anyone else, but the price point is a major factor for many people, including a student like myself.
Thanks to Sony's effort to win the format wars (HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray) they main focus of the Playstation 3 has shifted away from gaming on onto its extra "features." I could care less about the next generation movie format bullshit. DVDs are just fine with me and I don't care for my DVD collection to become obsolete. Another point that really bothers me is Sony's decision to remove the vibration feature from its controllers. They claim that the vibration would interfere with it's new motion sensors, but that is a load of BS...Sony was sued by a company called Immersion who claimed that they had invented the rumble concept. I'm not sure why they attacked Sony and not another company, but regardless, Sony was forced to remove the feature...
The PS3 is slated for a Nov 17 release btw, while the Wii I think is October...
The Wiimote hasn't exactly won me over either. Am I the only one that wants to play the old fashioned way? I don't care to dance around and look like an idiot swinging a non-existent tennis raquet or some shit. wtf. are all games going to be played with that little shitbrick, or will there be a regular controller included as well, for shooters and such?
meh

Let's break it down!! :
The Wii will be released November 19th, in the US. Japan will get it soon after.
1) Not all games will use the remote. Super Smash Brothers: Brawl will use the normal controller.
2) A huge number of people said they didn't want to use a stylus to play games on Nintendo's new handheld, the DS. Well look at it now - people love the damn thing and it's selling like mad. People have realized that although the control scheme for many games is different, there are really interesting avenues that it takes gameplay on, and it can be genuinely fun.
3) If you want a regular console experience so badly, just buy an Xbox360. There are some fine games for that system, and Xbox Live is a great service.
4) Wait till you play the damn thing before you pass judgement on it. People used to say that the internet was a stupid idea and a fad...but look now.
Aside from that...
I think the Wii will be unintenionally be a great "competitor" as far as next-gen systems go.
It didn't seem like it earlier. We have the Xbox360 that's been out for almost a year, with some great games, and a KILLER online service.
The PS3 of course builds on Sony's brand loyalty (people buying it, simply because it's the next Playstation). Japan's third party support will be great. It's a blue-ray player, and it seems like it has a ton of power and potential game-wise.
And in the corner was the Wii. Not nearly as powerful, coming up after the underwhelming Gamecube (talking about sales). The idea of having a remote as a main means of control was crazy and intriguing. Didn't look like it would compete DIRECTLY with MS and Sony.
I think that's gonna be different though.
We've heard nothing but bad news from Sony since E3.
MGS4 isn't a launch game. It's fucking huge. Developers are having troubles programming for it. They're gonna have huge shortages of it at launch. And the worst of it all: $599. $599. What the fuck. I don't care how much power it has. I don't care that it's a blue-ray player. $599 for what's primarily a gaming console is insane. Especially when you can have a great experience on the Xbox360.
And through Sony's failing's the Wii has only looked better. $250 at launch, with Wii Sports as a pack-in. Zelda: Twilight Princess on launch day (along with a GameCube version, playable in the regular control style). $50 first party games. A free Connect24 service, allowing pay-per download games from the NES, SNES, and N64.
I'm predicting this:
Continued Xbox360 success.
Many people who own 360s picking up a Wii as well.
The Wii selling extremely well (due to the success of the DS and the Wii's low price)
The Playstation 3 selling out easily (brand loyalty), but many people not interested in it.
Of course we have to wait and see how it all plays out, come November. But for now, it really seems like Sony's getting into a hole they can't escape from. $599 is simply too much for the average video game player.
Just seems like they're coming to the war with too little too late.

if sony doesn't get their shit together, they're gonna fail really, really hard. they need to stop stripping cool options (which they always seem to do) to replace them with shitty, unwanted options.

jedi, the guy that said the region lock thing is reportedly not a good source for info about what nintendo is planning.
The controllers are wayyyy expensive and I wasn't expecting this. In japan they're going to do some special where they sell some game and controoller together. I hope they do the same here.

Good synopsis...or whatever that was...
I' actually getting pretty pumped up about the Wii after reading more about it. I haven't owned a Nintendo console since teh SNES
I think I will try to get one on launch week and maybe a ps3 when the deluxe version goes down to 400USD. (could be a long ass time)

Ah ok.
The US usually never gets the cool bundles that Japan gets. So I wouldn't be surprised if we never get games with controllers. And they are too damn expensive.

Just some facts to keep us all on track:
The Wii will come out two days after the PS3 - excellent move by Nintendo. While thousands and thousands of would-be PS3 buyers are sad to find out that the PS3 has sold out at all of their local stores....they're still gonna have that $600 in their pockets. And just two days later comes the Wii in great supply, and $250 less than the PS3.
The $250 purchase price of the Wii will include a controller set-up (remote & nunchuck) as well as a copy of Wii Sports.
Additional controller combos will cost $60 each. That's $40 for the controller, and $20 for the nunchuck.
