White Oleander. It's a pleasant book.

I am also finishing Tale of Two Cities, but that's for school which makes it a second read.

On the Road, by Kerouac, for my American Lit class. Also Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clarke.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

I'm reading it for school, but my teachers actually decided to pick a book that was recently written (2003), and it's awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone so far.

Why not just go down to the local library and pick up the newer english translation? :? The Stranger takes less than a day to read.

Translations are for lame-os. :o It's probably because I'm an obnoxious elitist kid, but when I can I prefer to read stuff in its original language. That and it's good for vocabulary buildingggg! >:D

The newer translation is excellent. Building your French vocab is a good excuse, though. Personally, I'd rather read a book like The Stranger in my native language in order to more effectively absorb the theme, but suit yourself. Either way, a French copy would be cool to have.

Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami, per terra's request.

Didn't grab me right away, but now I'm about 50-60 pages into it and I'm loving it.
