Only interesting thing said in this thread.
Shin needs to start trying again. I heard plenty of spots on My Foot that were empty when there should have been drum fills.
Skilled musicians? Hardly.
Dammit, this is just getting irritating. At every single chance you get, do you think it's really necessary to moan about how much the pillows suck? Is it even possible that one of your favorite bands has even the slightest lick of talent? Probably. I'm guessing the reason you're on this board is because you enjoy the music the pillows put out, so really there has to be some reason why they're on your playlist.
I'm totally fine with saying how they could improve, but you hold this imaginary "skill" bar so high that you lose credibility in what is "good" or "not good".
In conclusion,

I'd say that if Shin improved on his drumming for upcoming albums, I'm sure Jun's bass would improve a bit by then too, so I voted for drums. Sawao needs some work with both rhythm guitar and his singing too if you ask me. I wish I knew a bit more about music so I could make some better commentary. I feel like they are losing a lot of their charm in their recent music.

Why isn't there an option for everything?
I'm not trying to be super-critical, but there isn't one single element at fault here. It's easy to throw a lot of blame on sawao, and to be fair, his songwriting is a major culprit in their recent mediocrity, but sato and manabe have practically checked out as well.

no gas left in the tank. I don't think they realize that they're not as young as they used to be.
For example, in good dreams, it's like after they wrote sono mirai wa ima and orange film garden they just quit and winged it. I find myself being distracted because of switching between tracks 3 and 5 while driving on the highway when listening to that album.
Good Dreams can kill, bros.

I mean, I think everyone can agree that their most recent albums have been kind of lacking.
I think skoolyardpuck makes a good point, I mean, they have been around for a while. I don't think that they don't have the ability to produce good music again, but they definitely need to double their efforts.

It certaintly brings up a lot of questions. Particularly, whether or not the pillows have any great music left in them. I might be a pessismist, but it seems that the pillows' sucess was a function of their youth.

I don't think age has anything to do with this. The age range is 37 - 43 and Manabe says they don't plan on stopping any time soon. I'm sure we will see some more big style changes in the future. (they really never did stick with one thing for too long, unless you are one of those people that hate everything post Living Field)
My biggest complaint on MY FOOT is Sato. Songs like Gazelle City and Nonfiction on the last couple albums, that had the potential to be Happy Bivoac - On Hillari Step level material, as far as energy goes were really held back by Sato's lack of drumming. At some points in the GD album, it's like the song comes to a complete stop before the chorus, and just taps his little snare drum every now and then during the chorus.
I even wonder if some underlaying issues such as depression and alcohol are coming into play.

by no means am i saying that they can't make more music because they're too old, they just have to realize they can't shell out several albums, singles, and dvds like they used to. They didn't release an album in 1996 and look what we got? Please Mr. Lostman.
Even though they didn't release an album in 2005, sawao was out doing predators for half the year.
They just need so slow down a bit and give it some time.

Obviously shin is depressed. If I had to play drums on my foot, I would be depressed too. But, listen to the latest pees record; he can still play and he still enjoys it. I think the pillows are just creatively exhuasted.

What if they took like 3 - 5 years off, sortof like what za peaze did and then came back and took the world by storm?
Kids in the Bronx downpicking Jun-style as they roll down da streez!
Mexicans in Georgia beating on tin cans Sato-style while shouting Hijo de Puta!!
50 year old Shin plastered, naked, on billboards in Bratislava.
Think about it man!
